Service of Dedication
Faculty and staff, spouses and guests are invited to attend the annual Service of Dedication Thursday, Aug. 28 at 3:30 p.m. President Paula J. Carlson will deliver her State of the College address and new faculty and staff will be introduced. Offices are allowed to close for the dedication service so that as many employees as possible can attend. A reception will follow.
Interim director of Human Resources
Marsha Wenthold is serving as interim director of Human Resources until a new director is named. Matt Bills, visiting faculty in management, is working in the HR office assisting with several HR projects. The search for the new director is underway, and the college hopes to have a new director in place by mid-fall. Questions regarding HR procedure and policy should be directed to Marsha until a new director is named.

New Norsekey.luther.edu website
LIS is pleased to announce a new Norsekey.luther.edu website where faculty, staff and students can change their Norse Key and Active Directory password in one place. For additional security, the next time faculty, staff and students change their password, it will need to be a minimum of 10 characters, numbers and symbols in length.

Reason introductory and refresher training sessions
New to Reason, Luther's web content management system? Already been trained in Reason, but could use a refresher? If so, LIS is offering two sessions, Reason 101 and Reason 201, that will introduce users to the basic features of Reason, giving tips on how to write for the web, or give users a refresher on the basics and introduce different options in the new responsive design. Yoga Lunch Hour series
Join Molly Lesmeister for a six week yoga session starting Sept. 8. Two class options offered: Mondays at 11:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 12:45 p.m. Sign up for one class a week, or both. Beginners welcome. Class will be held in Studio II of the CFA. Props provided, no experience necessary. Registration is $18 for one class per week and $36 for two classes per week. Women's Basketball Jr. Norse
Join us for Luther College Women's Basketball Jr. Norse 2014. Each week Jr. Norse will have the opportunity to interact with the 2014-15 Luther women's basketball team while participating in fundamental drills, team play, shooting competitions and more. Sessions are Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 2 and 9 from 6:15-7:30 p.m. in the Main Gym of the Regents Center. Girls in second-fifth grade are welcome. Xiao Hu and Du Huang recorded a new CD of piano duo music for the Chinese label Yangtze River. During their recent trip to China, they presented a piano duo recital and a piano master class at Guizhou Normal University. They also presented piano master classes at Guiyang College and Wuhan Conservatory of Music.
Pacific School of Religion's Board of Trustees voted Rev. David Vásquez-Levy the school's next president. He will be one of only four persons of Latino or Latina descent currently serving as president of an accredited seminary in the U.S. and its territories.
Luther faculty Ruth Berger and Mike Johnson, and recent Luther graduate Jenny Rustad attended MathFest, the annual summer meeting of the Mathematics Association of America, in Portland, Aug. 6-10. Ruth presented a talk "The Many Shapes of Hyperbolas in Taxicab Geometry." Mike presented joint work with current Luther students Grant Barnes and Cadence Sawyer, in a talk titled "Finding the Catalan Numbers in the Sandpile Model." Jenny presented "Dynamics of Light Refracted in Tilings of Metamaterials" in the Pi Mu Epsilon speaker session.
Don Jones has earned the designation of Professional Certified Marketer from the American Marketing Association. The certification is earned through meeting education and experience requirements along with the successful completion of a comprehensive marketing examination.
