ANNOUNCEMENTS

Service of Dedication

Faculty and staff, spouses and guests are invited to attend the annual Service of Dedication at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. President David Tiede will deliver his State of the College address and new faculty and staff will be introduced. Offices are allowed to close for the dedication service so that as many employees as possible can attend. A reception will follow.

Fall semester Opening Convocation

Join the community in celebrating the start of a new academic year. Opening Convocation will be held Thurs., Sept. 5, at 9:40 a.m. in the CFL. If possible, offices should close so all can attend. The speaker is Thrity Umrigar, author of "The Space Between Us," the 2013 summer reading.

There will be a Q&A with Dr. Umrigar, followed by a book signing, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4 in the Main Hall of the CFL.

Letter to students from Student Health Services

On Aug. 22 returning Luther students received a letter from Corey Landstrom and Diane Tacke providing the details on changes to the services offered beginning this fall at the Student Health Services.  A copy of the letter can be found at: https://www2.luther.edu/healthservice/update/.

COLLEGE OPERATIONS

Parking changes

The office of Safety and Security would like to alert the Luther community to some recent changes in parking regulations and/or space designations. These changes are in effect immediately. Signs have been, or will be, added to reflect the changes so please pay close attention to all signs on campus. All regular school year lot designations will be in effect starting on Tuesday Aug. 27.

  • In the past students with A and B stickers have been restricted from the main campus and adjacent streets during business hours. Those with A and B stickers may now utilize the Regents Center and City Pool parking lots as well as the Baker Village and College Apartments areas. The restriction from parking on the adjacent streets and the other campus lots remains in effect.
  • The spaces reserved for campus administration have moved from the east side of the CFL to the spaces adjacent the Campus Pastor space in the small lot south of Ylvisaker. The Reserved spaces by the CFL are now designated as General Visitor Parking.
  • The south side of the roadway that runs between the Bell Green and Loyalty and Larsen is now designated as Visitor Parking rather than No Parking.
  • The renovation of the driveway at the lower level of the Towers has resulted in the elimination of the 10 minute parking that was previously located between Miller and Dieseth. Several other short term parking spaces have been added in the immediate area however. These spaces are designated as 30 minute parking.

Like many similar institutions, when it comes to parking issues, Luther is faced with the challenge of balancing aesthetics, order, safety and convenience. In an effort to maintain such a balance Luther has developed, and maintains, a set of parking and traffic regulations. With the privilege of parking and driving on campus comes an expectation that the users of our facilities will operate and park their vehicles within the established rules. The cooperation of all will help ensure we maintain a safe environment while best utilizing our limited resources.

Parking restrictions for move-in

On Saturday, Aug. 31, Luther will see a flurry of activity as a mass of first year students, and their families, experience the joy of moving into our residence halls. For many this will be an emotional experience as the students embark on a new adventure and parents see them on their way. In an effort to make the experience a bit less stressful we will be reserving parking areas near the halls to accommodate the movers.

Since a number of early arrivals will be making the move on Thursday and Friday as well, the following parking restrictions will go into effect starting at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28. The small parking lot south of Ylvisaker will be reserved for vehicles unloading for move-in. High street from Jenson-Noble to Campus House will be designated as a one way street, west to east, so moving vehicles may park on the north side of the street. There will be no parking on the south side of the street. Faculty, staff and students are asked to refrain from parking in these areas. Thank you for your cooperation in extending this welcome to the new members of the Luther community.

Electronic pay advice information

With the approval of the President’s Cabinet, beginning with the Sept. 25 paycheck, all Luther employees will receive their pay advices (pay stubs) electronically. Pay advices will go directly to employees' My.Luther account where they can log in with their secure Norse Key. The electronic pay advices will contain the same information that currently appears on the paper pay advice, with the exception of leave balances. This balance can still be viewed at My.Luther.

A general overview session will be offered by the Office of Human Resources and Office of Financial Services for all employees from 10:30 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Sept. 12 in Mott.

For those unfamiliar with My.Luther and using a Norse Key, a training session will be offered in Olin 301 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10. Because of limited space, please reserve a spot by calling Sheryl, 387-1134.

This new catalog allows users to search both Luther's collection and the entire WorldCat catalog for books, articles, videos and recordings from one search box. We have also replaced our underlying library system with OCLC's (Online Computer Library Center) new WorldShare Management Services platform. Please report issues, concerns, suggestions, compliments to any of the library staff. Address complaints to John Goodin.

Validate your account in the new Luther ticketing system at  tickets.luther.edu. All faculty, staff, students and patrons of the box office will receive an email with their nontransferable login and password. All of your benefits for any Luther ticketed event (Christmas at Luther, faculty/staff, student CAF) will be coded to this account, and it must be set up before any purchases can be made.
