Fall 2014 individual course evaluation reports available
Faculty can access their individual fall 2014 course evaluation reports on Google Drive. Due to changes Google made to its spreadsheets, LIS needed to use a different approach to processing the data this term. Because of this change we are asking faculty to carefully scrutinize their reports. Departmental course evaluation reports will be available shortly with notification posted on the LIS Blog and KATIE Recent News block.
Fall 2014: Departmental Course Evaluation Reports available
Dean's Office staff and department heads can now access the fall 2014 departmental course evaluation reports on Google Drive.
To view departmental course evaluation reports, search for "Departmental Course Evaluation Report 2014FA" in either Google Drive or Google Docs. Clicking on the appropriate title will then open the document for review.
KATIE upgrade complete
All work related to moving KATIE to a new server was completed by LIS staff on Tuesday, Dec. 30. LIS appreciates the patience and understanding of the Luther community as we completed the process, which will lead to greater stability and performance for the KATIE system.
Learn the basics of teaching with Moodle in free, online course
Moodle, the learning management system we brand as KATIE, is offering a free, online course for instructors. Covering the basics of how to teach with Moodle, the course begins Jan. 11 and will last for four weeks. It requires two or three asynchronous hours of work per week. Music students off campus for semester tour concerts
Student musicians from the following ensembles will miss classes on the following days during second semester for off-campus tour concerts. Rosters for each ensemble, which are regularly updated, can be found by clicking on the links for each ensemble's name.
'Don't Shoot' series: book discussion
The Center for Ethics and Public Life and the Diversity Center are sponsoring book discussions of Colin Gordon's book "Mapping Decline: St. Louis and the Fate of the American City." Discussions will take place at 4 p.m. on Feb. 26, March 5 and 12 in Nansen. Gordon will join the book discussion on March 12, prior to his lecture at 7 p.m. There are a very limited number of books; participants are asked to commit to attending all book discussions. Online alumni magazine is all new
The winter issue of the Luther Alumni Magazine is now available online in a redesigned format that allows for viewing on wide screens, tablets and phones. The new site makes it easy to read and share stories, and the flipbook format is still available. Find obituaries through a menu link or go straight to luther.edu/in-memoriam. The printed issues of the winter magazine are in the mail.

Launching Luther Leaders nomination form
Launching Luther Leaders is seeking new student membership from the class of 2017. Faculty, staff and current classes of L3 may nominate potential and current student leaders who want to develop their leadership skills and pursue a variety of leadership experiences. Requirements include a minimum 2.50 GPA and sophomore status. Nominate students online. Applications will be sent to the student to continue the process of selection for the certificate program. 'Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse' performances Jan. 20
Luther College presents Omaha Theatre Company's stage adaptation of Kevin Henkes' award-winning children's book, "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse," at 10 a.m.and 12:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall Tuesday, Jan. 20. Tickets, on sale for $2 in Luther's Ticket Office, may also be purchased by phone 387-1291, or via email <phillibr>. Area schools hold priority for school matinees, however, community members are welcome as space is available.
Women's Club meeting Jan. 20
Luther College Woman's Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Peace Dining Room, Dahl Centennial Union. The program title for the meeting is "Museum Studies: What's New at Porter House and Vesterheim." With guest speakers Emily Minear, coordinator at Porter House, and Alison Dwyer, collections manager at Vesterheim. There will also be special music, a brief meeting and social/coffee time. All are welcome. Shuttle service leaves from the pool parking lot at 1:10 p.m.
Authors to read selected works at Luther Jan. 22
Margaret Yapp '15 and guest authors Denton Loving and John Domini will present a reading of selected works at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in Olin 102. This addition to the Guest Readings series is open to the public with no charge for admission.
'Dear White People' film screening and discussion Jan. 22
Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival's Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, "Dear White People" is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. Writer/director Justin Simien follows a group of African American students as they navigate campus life and racial politics at a predominantly white college. "R" rating is for language, sexual content and drug use. Kenechukwu Okeke '16 will be performing a poem following the movie.
The screening will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan, 22, in Valders 206 with a discussion to follow, led by guests Julia Schumacher '09 and Ericka Merriwether, doctor of physical therapy. Cost for the film is $2. SAC Cinema and the Diversity Center are sponsoring this activity.
'Recovery Tour' Jan. 23
The community is invited to "Recovery Tour" with Mike and Sue Blair, at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in the CFL Recital Hall. Inspired by Sue's journey of complete remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2012-13, "Recovery Tour" will offer stories and songs of faith, laughter and healing that invite reflections on recovery as a universal theme. Sponsored by College Ministries, the event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Luther College students in the January term Introduction to Opera class will present the opera program "A Delicious Confection" 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Noble Recital Hall. The program is open to the public with no charge for admission.
'Messiah' tickets on sale
Tickets for the Spring 2015 Oratorio are now on sale. Handel's "Messiah" will be performed by student soloists, Cathedral Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Nordic Choir and Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. March 27 in the CFL Main Hall. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students (18 and under). Tickets are free for all Luther faculty, staff and students, and must be obtained in person at the Ticket Office. Tickets for the Minneapolis performance at Orchestra Hall on Sunday, March 29, are also available.
Charles Smith's sculpture installation on display through Feb. 12
"Inside/Outside: Contemporary Folk Art by Dr. Charles Smith (1940-)" consisting of six sculptures created by the contemporary folk artist is on display through Feb. 12 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Art Gallery in the CFA. Curated by Katie Mathis, Luther College class of 2015, the exhibit is part of Mathis' senior project in art history and is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Lunch hour yoga series
Join Molly Lesmeister for a six-week yoga session Feb. 9-March 19. Two class options are offered: 11 a.m. on Monday and 1 p.m. on Thursday. Note the time changes from previous sessions. Classes are 50 minutes in length. Sign up for one class a week or both. Beginners are welcome. Class will be held in Studio II of the CFA. Props provided, no experience necessary. Registration is $18 for one class per week and $36 for two classes per week. Checks can be made payable to Luther College, payment due the first day of class. 50 Years of Women's Athletics luncheon Feb. 14
Fifty years ago Luther College sponsored its first varsity athletic teams for women. A luncheon in celebration of women's athletics at Luther will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 14, in Peace Dining Room. After enjoying lunch, individuals who participated or coached during the early years of women's athletics at Luther College will share their experiences. Additionally, special tribute will be payed to those individuals who were members on the first team in each sport.

Luther's Cafeteria to Community program awarded $2,466 grant
Luther College received a grant of $2,466 from Alliant Energy Foundation in support of Luther's Cafeteria to Community program. The grant will help the college purchase reusable and disposable containers, to help maintain the program and minimize waste. Since the program began in November 2013, more than 14,000 pounds of food have been packaged and donated to people in the Decorah community and the program continues to grow each day.
