'Feminine Power and Spirituality'

"Feminine Power and Spirituality," an exhibit of art by Chicago artist Dayo Laoye, will be on display in the Center for Faith and Life Feb. 4-28. The exhibit, coinciding with Luther's Black History Symposium Feb. 11-12, is open to the public with no charge for admission. The 30 pieces in the exhibition represent Laoye's recent focus on the continuity of African traditions in the northern hemisphere.

Mini OFF Feb. 5-8

Hotel Winneshiek will host a mini film festival in conjunction with the Oneota Film Festival Feb. 5-8. Films start daily at 4 p.m. and include "Empowered: Power from the People, "Dirt," "Mysteries of the Driftless" and "River Sojourn."

FAS: 'Contrasts for the End of Time'

Luther College faculty Xiao Hu and Eric Kutz along with guest artists Jubal Fulks and Scot Humes will perform "Contrasts for the End of Time," a recital featuring works for piano, cello, violin and clarinet, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. Held in the Noble Recital Hall, the recital is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Center Stage Series: 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

The Dance Alive! National Ballet will perform "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as part of Luther Center Stage Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the Center for Faith and Life. The Dance Alive! National Ballet is partnering with Taste of Winneshiek and the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau to give registered participants of Taste of Winneshiek a discount on tickets to this performance. Luther hosts 12th annual Black History Symposium Feb. 11-12

Luther will host the 12th annual Black History Symposium Feb. 11-12 on the Luther campus. The symposium, titled "Africans and African-Americans: It's Complicated," will feature a number of events focused on exploring the fascinating and often contentious relationship among various groups of African-descended people in the United States. The symposium begins with a special screening of the documentary "Bound" at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the Valders Room 206. 

Guest recital Liz Pearse, soprano; Karl Larson, piano

Guest recitalists Liz Pearse and Karl Larson will present a voice and piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Noble Recital Hall. Pearse and Larson will perform Olivier Messiaen's "Harawi," a 12-song cycle based around themes of love and death. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

FAS: Luther College Unison Piano Duo Feb. 14 

The Unison Piano Duo, featuring husband and wife team Du Huang and Xiao Hu, will present a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Noble Recital Hall in Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus. The program is open to the public with no charge for admission.

FAS: Gary Moss, baritone, Feb. 15

Gary Moss will perform a baritone recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, in the Noble Recital Hall. The recital, titled "In Times of War," is open to the public with no charge for admission.

"In Times of War" features works by Frank Wildhorn, Alexander Zemlinsky, Arthur Somervell, Gene Scheer and Tom Lehrer. Each set represents perspectives from a specific time period or war, giving voice to periods such as the American Civil War, World War I, World War II and the Cold War.

Jessica Paul will collaborate on the performance on piano.
