Director of Counseling Service

Full-time Director of Counseling Service who will provide comprehensive leadership and clinical direction for all dimensions of the Counseling Service, play an active role within the Student Life Division and contribute to divisional collaboration and planning. The Director will also lead the Counseling Service in partnering with an array of student support services and other college programs to respond to student mental health issues and promote student wellness.

The successful candidate will have one of the following degrees: doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology, MSW in clinical social work, or master's degree in counseling. Other requirements include: must be currently licensed in Iowa as a psychologist, independent social worker, or mental health counselor, or be licensure-eligible within one year of hire; must have a minimum of five years of full-time postgraduate practice as a mental health professional working in a clinical setting with late adolescent and adult clients as well as significant experience in crisis intervention and assessment of suicide risk and other acute mental health problems.

Director of the Nena Amundson Lifetime Wellness Program

Full-time Director of the Nena Amundson Lifetime Wellness Program. This endowed position was established to bring focus to the array of issues that center on healthy living and wellness. The Director should possess social entrepreneurial skills and provide creative leadership to assure continuation of the lifetime wellness program in order to meet the needs of a campus community of 2,500 students and 600 employees. The position has major responsibilities for the development, implementation and evaluation of the program and reports to the Vice President and Dean for Student Life for programmatic aspects and to the Health and Physical Education and Athletic Training department chair for teaching duties.

Doctorate degree preferred. Master's degree required in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health or related field and extensive knowledge of wellness program development, management and assessment. At least two years full-time, professional experience in the administration or management of a health and wellness program; and teaching experience at the college level preferred.

Regional admissions counselor—Twin Cities

Primary responsibilities of the position include coordinating the recruitment of students from Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Extensive travel is required, and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when appropriate.  

Candidates must be currently based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, or be willing to relocate to the area at the time of employment. 

Previous experience in admissions or a related field is preferred, and an appreciation for residential, liberal arts colleges would be helpful. A bachelor's degree is required, and applicants must have a valid driver's license.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, ETC.

Kate Narveson assumed her position as president of the John Donne Society at their annual conference, Feb. 26-March 1. She gave the presidential address, an academic lecture, on "John Donne: How and Why to Love the Ordinary." She is also taking on duties as an editor of the Variorum edition of Donne's religious poetry.

Diane Scholl's poem "Salt" appears in the Lent 2015 issue of The Cresset.  Her poem "Starry Night," a finalist in the 2014 Sow's Ear Poetry Review contest, appears in a forthcoming issue of the Sow's Ear Poetry Review.

Victoria Christman recently accompanied four Luther students, Betsy Fawcett '17, Fabian Pop Pop '17, Emily Sena '15, and Calvin Waller '15 to the third annual Undergraduate Workshop on Human Rights, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University. Fawcett, Pop Pop, Sena and Waller were four of 15 participants invited to take place in the two-day workshop, at which they shared their research with students and faculty from around the country.

Loren Toussaint, Colwick Wilson, Loma Linda University, Leon Wilson, Alabama State University and David Williams, Harvard University, recently published the article "Religiousness and suicide in a nationally representative sample of Trinidad and Tobago adolescents and young adults" in the peer-reviewed journal Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology. This represents only the second study to examine religious factors in suicide in this vulnerable population.
