Faculty recognition dinner
The traditional Faculty Recognition Dinner event will take a slightly different form this year, 10 25-year honorees will be recognized with an evening reception on Tuesday, May 12 and 13 retiring faculty members at an evening dinner on Thursday, May 14. Paideia Endowment Governing Board
The Paideia Endowment Governing Board invites members of the Luther community to propose presentations on the theme "Impermanence: Embracing Change" for the 2015-16 Texts and Issues Lecture Series. The hope is that participants will address the theme from the perspective of a wide variety of texts drawn from the arts, sciences and humanities. If interested in participating in the lecture series, please submit a tentative title and a brief (250-500 word) proposal by Friday, April 17. Free The Girls
XOP will be collecting gently used or new bras of any shape, size or color. These bras will be sent to the Free The Girls: Fight Human Trafficking foundation. Please bring bras to the collection box at the mail center or contact Rachel <madrra01>. XOP will be accepting donations through May 1. There will be a table outside of the cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. April 20-April 24.
Luther College Hearing Board
Seeking new student members for next year's board. The Hearing Board is a governing body for the college's Student Code of Conduct. Interested students will need a recommendation from both a current student and faculty/staff member and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students may find the application here. Luther and climate change
The Center for Sustainable Communities is hosting a series titled Luther and Climate Change. The series will run from 9:40-10:30 a.m. Thursday mornings in Valders 367. The presentations will focus on one topic each and will last about 15 minutes, followed by a question and answer session and discussion. The topics tentatively scheduled are: climate science, policy, economics, technology, Luther's commitments and actions, and local food. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Ashley Heffernen named Fulbright English Teaching Assistant
The Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board has selected Ashley Heffernen '14, to receive a Fulbright award for the 2015-16 academic year. Heffernen, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduated from Luther in December 2014 after earning a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a minor in music. She will serve the Fulbright program as an English teaching assistant in Mexico.
Lecture and Fine Arts Committee window opening soon
The first phase of the Lecture and Fine Arts Committee application review cycle will be open April 15-29. Applications submitted after April 29 will not be considered until the fall, with a deadline of Sept. 1. The application form is located on LFA's website: https://www2.luther.edu/programming/lfa/. Twin Peaks 25th anniversary
Curious about the Twin peaks series and the buzz about its return in 2016? Join the gang at Preus Library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, in Hovde Room to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the acclaimed television show with coffee, pie and donuts. 'The Mask You Live In'
"The Mask You Live In," a documentary film that explores the gender stereotypes traditionally forced upon men and boys, will be screened at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, in Valders 206. The film is open to the public with no charge for admission. After the screening, Active Minds will lead a community discussion on gender stereotypes and what the community can do to combat the negative aspects of those limiting patterns.
Gardening class series: how to build a raised bed
There are many benefits to gardening within a raised bed system. Join Jeff Scott of Driftless Gardens from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Thursday, April 9, in Valders 262 as he discusses how to make and garden in a raised bed. Presentation from former music director at KWLC
KWLC invites the community to an informal presentation by Lindsay Kimball, assistant Program Director of 89.3 The Current, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Borlaug Room. Kimball will discuss her experiences at The Current and Minnesota Public Radio. Kimball was formerly Music Director at KWLC and is a Luther College graduate in communication studies and psychology.
Luther Collegium Musicum ensemble to perform
Performing works by Henry Purcell, the Luther College Collegium Musicum concert begins 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 9, in the Noble Recital Hall. The ensemble of 11 singers and eight instrumentalists will focus on the second act of Purcell's "King Arthur," an opera with libretto by John Dryden. Also performing in the concert is the student/Decorah community instrumental ensemble of recorders and viols and a smaller recorder ensemble.
13th annual Brudos Family Opera Prize
Jennifer LeDoux, Luther senior from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the 2014-15 recipient of the Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Family Opera Prize. She will perform a recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Noble Recital Hall. A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.
'All Recipes Are Home'
An original theatrical experience about food, family and the comfort of home, locally commissioned musical "All Recipes Are Home" will make its premiere at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the CFL Main Hall as the final performance of the 2014-15 Luther Center Stage Series. Blood drive
The National Chavez Challenge Blood Drive, held through American Red Cross, will be from 11 a.m.–5 p.m Wednesday, April 13-14. Schedule an appointment online at redcrossblood.org. All donors will receive a free T-shirt while supplies last. The blood drive is sponsored by Tau Delta Gamma.
Book sale
Preus Library's annual National Library Week book sale will be held Monday-Friday, April 13-17. Hundreds of hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase in the library. Prices will decline daily.
Brown bag session on student-focused information literacy and technology projects
2014 LIS Summer Workshop participants Wanda Deifelt, Pedro dos Santos and Thomas Johnson will present and discuss their information literacy and technology projects at a brown bag session from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 14, in the Mott Room. Brass Ensembles to perform
Luther College's Brass Ensembles will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the CFL Main Hall. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Luther's Mass Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Choir, Trombone Choir and Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, will perform both modern and classical styles, as well as arrangements and original compositions for brass.
Luther Admissions hosts April 17 Preview Day
Luther will host a Preview Day for current high school juniors Friday, April 17, giving students the opportunity to see the quality of life on campus, discover the academic excellence of Luther students and explore what life at Luther is really like. Parents are welcome to attend this event.Rising seniors can come learn about Luther's campus with a student-led tour and see the best places to study, eat and play.
An evening with Nick Jonas
Pop sensation and host of Nickelodeon's 2015 Kids' Choice Awards, Nick Jonas will perform "An Evening with Nick Jonas," at Luther at 9:15 p.m. Monday, April 20,in the Regents Center. Doors open at8:45 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $35 and the performance is almost sold out. A former member of the pop rock band, The Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas announced himself as a brand-new artist on his self-titled solo debut in November 2014.
'Northeast Iowa: A Quarter Century Retrospective'
"Northeast Iowa: A Quarter Century Retrospective" features samples from Robert Campagna's selenium-toned, film-based photographs of people and landscapes in Northeast Iowa. The gallery will be open for viewing April 22-May 24 in the upper level of the CFL. A gallery reception will be held from4:30-6:30 p.m.Wednesday, April 22. Both the gallery reception and the exhibit are open to the public with no charge for admission.
Student recitals
Kalli Kistenmacher, Luther College junior from Holstein, Iowa, will perform a trumpet recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 12.
Recitals are held in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus with receptions to follow. Recitals and receptions are open to the public with no charge for admission.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, ETC.
Pedro dos Santos published an article titled "The Dilma Effect? Women's Representation under Dilma Rousseff's Presidency." The article is co-authored with Farida Jalalzai of University of Missouri-St. Louis and published in the journal "Politics & Gender."
Richard Leake participated on a panel titled "Preparing for Retirement: Life after Teaching" at the annual North American Management Society conference on March 26 in Chicago. He also chaired a session on business ethics at the conference.
Karen Kanakis presented a recital and a masterclass on the campus of Missouri State University-Springfield March 17-18. She has been selected as the Missouri State University Pi Kappa Lambda "Outstanding Alumna" for 2015 and will return to the MSU campus for a special presentation in May.
David Kamm presented a paper titled "We Don't Need No Stinking Technique" at the recent national Foundations in Art: Theory and Education conference in Indianapolis. His conference session, titled "Why Master the Skills before Making Something that Matters?" asked presenters to take a clear stand in favor of either "concept" or "technique" in art foundations instruction.
John Goodin's 2010 composition for mandolin orchestra, "Antonina," has been published by the Joachim Trekel Musikverlag in Hamburg. The piece was commissioned for performance at the 2010 convention of the Classical Mandolin Society of America and is dedicated to Antonina (Toni) Nigrelli, one of the founders of the Classical Mandolin Society of America.
Kate Narveson gave a talk at the Folger Institute, "Resting Assured: Devotional Practice and the Creation of Emotion," as part of her term as a Research Fellow at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C.
Beth Lynch presented a lecture, "Cultural landscapes and opportunities for conservation of biodiversity," for the University of Northern Iowa Geography Department seminar series. Her talk included research and observations from central Italy, northern Chile and the Driftless Area of the Upper Midwest.
Alfredo Alonso Estenoz published a chapter in Una Isla Llamada Virgilio, a collection of essays on Cuban writer Virgilio Piñera (1912-79). He also gave a presentation at the event, "A Chain of Endless Tigers: Borges Revisits UWM" at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, on April 2.
Maryna Bazylevych was a member of a panel "The Body Social: Discourses of Humanity and the Human Form" at the annual Soyuz Symposium at the University of Washington. Bazylevych also presented a paper titled "Vulnerable Providers. Between the Rock and the Hard Place in Ukraine" at the Society for the Applied Anthropology annual meeting and served as a panel chair and organizer for, "The Role of Class and Money in Bioethics."
