Aloha Staff Day
Get out those Hawaiian shirts! Staff Day—a Luther Luau—is next Tuesday, June 9, beginning with lunch at 12:15 p.m. in Peace Dining Room. Those who have not yet registered can do so beginning at 11:45 a.m. in the lobby outside of the Admissions Welcome Center.
Roof work continues at Preus Library
Roof work began Tuesday, May 26, at Preus Library. Please honor the barricades that are set up in and around the library and parking lot to protect you, your car and the workers involved. The front door of the library remains open throughout the work, though the approach to the front door may vary.
Luther farm stand
Stop by Oneota Market starting this Wednesday to purchase fresh vegetables from Luther's farm. We're celebrating our first season using the newly constructed high tunnel by offering fresh produce at discounted prices to students and staff. This week's selection will include kale, collard greens, multi-colored radishes and a variety of mixed salad greens.
Center Stage Series subscription packages on sale
Satisfy a yearning for travel and adventure from the comfort of the Luther College Center for Faith and Life through the 2015-16 Center Stage Series, Sept. 18-April 7. New alumni magazine online
The spring issue of the Luther Alumni Magazine is now available online, with stories that celebrate retiring and newly tenured faculty, an alumna's award-winning conservation efforts in Panama, a Detroit pastor who is saving a Lutheran church by opening it to other faiths, students' gorgeous study away photos, and much more. The printed issues are in the mail.
Music Department releases new 'Handel's "Messiah"' CD
The Luther College Music Department is proud to present the newest recording of Handel's "Messiah." The album is compiled from live recordings of the performances at the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall at Luther College on March 27, and Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 29. Seeking staff nominations for Diversity Council
Non-exempt staff are invited to nominate a colleague to serve a three-year term on Luther's Diversity Council, replacing Bridget Christopher. Nominations should be sent to Marcia Bullerman, <bullerma>, by June 10. The three persons who receive the most nominations will be forwarded to President Carlson and she will make the appointment.
OFS closes out end of year
The college's fiscal year ended May 31. The Office for Financial Services reminds all faculty and staff that supplies, materials, etc., must have been received by May 31 to be expensed to a FY 14-15 budget.
Additionally, all outstanding travel expense reports, credit card reports, original invoices-no faxed copies, supporting purchase orders/purchase permits, or account adjustments should be sent to OFS by June 12 to be included in FY 14-15 budget. Items for deposit that were in Luther's possession by May 31 should be brought to OFS immediately. Call with questions and as always, thank you for helping OFS close the year in a timely manner.

Presto pesto
Bring the taste of Italy into your kitchen and feel confident in your preparation. The simple equation behind pesto is greens+olive oil+nuts=pesto. The variations and combinations from this starting point are seemingly endless. Explore techniques to incorporate almonds, walnuts, tomatoes and more into pesto–not to mention the many uses of pesto when it is complete. Class held noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in Valders 379. Faculty, staff and students are welcome. Registration is required.

These words have served us well in the past few weeks as we have endured a "bump in the road," that is, coping with Ellen's thyroid cancer diagnosis, surgery and recovery. We wish to express our thanks and gratitude to Luther friends who have offered kind words, thoughts, positive energy and prayers. Thank you, faculty, for the beautiful bouquet of flowers! Also, Bob Harri, we appreciate your accommodating Erik's work schedule in such a way that I was able to have him with me during Rochester appointments. The support that others have offered makes this journey much less difficult, even though Erik is a very good driver! Thank you all and God speed!

Housing assignments coordinator: Full-time housing assignments coordinator serves as the office manager for the Residence Life Office and works cooperatively with the director of Residence Life. The coordinator interacts extensively with a wide range of constituencies. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, three to five years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of people. Previous experience in a detailed-oriented, complex, highly public and sometimes challenging work environment is preferred. Experience using Word and Excel programs is required.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, ETC.
Charlie Leonard, executive and artistic director at Blue Water Theatre, was named the recipient of the 2015 Luther College Young Alumni Award for his work with students who otherwise wouldn't receive opportunities to pursue the arts. The Young Alumni Award recognizes Luther alumni who have graduated in the past 15 years and rendered notable service to their profession and society in their vocation or avocation.
Through the support of the Henry Luce Foundation, ASIANetwork has awarded Luther College a $40,000 grant to support the hiring of Yang Wang, postdoctoral teaching fellow in Asian art history. This one-year fellowship will be co-hosted by Luther's Visual and Performing Arts department and the Asian Studies program. "Thanks to this grant, we were able to hire a dynamic young Ph.D. and can start moving toward diversifying our course offerings in art history. We're so excited that we will be able to offer more classes from a non-western world perspective that is entirely in line with our global focus as a college," said Kate Elliott, Luther assistant professor of art history.
Anna Burke '15, of Postville, Iowa, earned the Frank G. Brooks Award for Excellence in Student Research presented by the North Central District of the Beta Beta Beta Honor Society. Burke, the daughter of Rita and Lowell Lyngaas of Postville and Scott Burke of Elgin, Iowa, is majoring in biology at Luther. She is a 2011 graduate of Valley Community High School.
Six Luther College students have each received a $1,000 Steven Mark Anderson Scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year. Recipients include Makeda Barkley, Samantha Ea, MaiTeng Moua, Frederick Scaife, Pedro Lopez Vega and Christian Wieseler. The Steven Mark Anderson Scholarship benefits Luther College students involved in Student Support Services. The Luther SSS Program provides services ranging from advising and tutoring to leadership development and graduate school preparation for more than 175 students annually.

Tomorrow is National Running Day. Held annually on the first Wednesday in June, this is a day when runners everywhere declare their passion for running. Since 2009, the country's foremost running organizations have worked together to celebrate their sport with thousands of participants on the first Wednesday of June.
