Pastor Amy Larson accepts new call

College Ministries extends our congratulations and blessings to Pastor Amy Larson as she has accepted a new call to serve as pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Decorah, beginning Aug. 10. College Ministries will host a farewell reception for Pastor Amy this fall so students can join in expressing gratitude for Pastor Amy's ministry with the Luther community over the past 10 years. Pastor Judd will continue serving as interim pastor this fall.

Retirement

Cindy Steines will retire on June 30 after more than 31 years of service.

Counselor: Luther College Counseling Services is currently accepting applications for a (.86 FTE) counselor. This college mental health professional provides the highest level of ethical psychological treatment for students and delivers a full range of services to student clients and to the campus community. The counselor provides assessment, individual and group counseling; crisis intervention; referral to off-campus mental health resources; consultation; response to college-wide crisis, and outreach programming. One of the following degrees is required; doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology, MSW in clinical social work, or master's degree in counseling. Applicants should be currently licensed in Iowa as a psychologist, independent social worker, master social worker or mental health counselor, or licensure should be eligible within one year of hire.

Associate director of athletics--operations/facility: This position reports to the Director of Athletics and serves as a member of the athletics department administrative team. The Associate Director of Athletics will manage the daily operations and planning in the Regents Center and outdoor practice and competition venues; as well as communicate and coordinate with the directors of Legends Fitness Center, athletic equipment room, and aquatics facility. Requirements include a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) and at least three years of relevant experience in athletic administration and facilities at the collegiate level. This is a 12-month position with employment starting Aug. 10.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, ETC.

Jon Christy was part of a panel presentation, Diverse Approaches to Using Alumni Survey Data, at the Association of Institutional Research Annual Forum in Denver, Colorado, May 26-29. He also was part of a panel presentation, Using Data from the HEDS Alumni and Research Practices Surveys, at the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon, June 13-17. He recently concluded five years on the HEDS Board, serving as Board Chair in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Xiao Hu recently performed as a member of a piano trio  at China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu, China.

Todd Pedlar has received a $150,000 grant renewal from the National Science Foundation for his research in elementary particle physics. This is Pedlar's fourth consecutive three-year grant from the Elementary Particle Physics subdivision of the Mathematics and Physical Sciences division of the NSF, and will support his work and the work of his research students at Luther.

Tanya Gertz has been selected as one of 25 participants in the first class of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters' Leadership Fellows Program. As part of the program, launching in June 2015, Gertz will contribute to the growth and development of performing arts presenting in a time of unprecedented change, and help APAP build a body of knowledge surrounding promotion of the performing arts.
