ANNOUNCEMENTS

Opening Convocation Sept. 4

The entire campus is invited to opening convocation at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Center for Faith and Life.  A Luther alumnus who is a supervisory special agent with the FBI will give the address, discussing how we as a society are able to interact with the wider world through the Internet and how we act online determines how much others can know about us. This Opening Convocation begins a new academic year with a sense of purpose and inquiry, keeping in mind questions that books such as George Orwell's "1984" raise concerning what it means to be human in today's world.

In discussing the extent of government's online surveillance and the business practices of Internet companies selling user information for profit, "Where's your Pendulum?" offers valuable insight into the nature of Internet identity.

At 9:30 a.m. new students should gather in Bentdahl Commons and faculty should assemble on the sidewalk north of Koren.  If possible, offices should close so all can attend.

The Luther College Fine Arts Collection has completed the full-campus art inventory. Each week FAC will feature one work of art that isn't where we thought it would be in hopes that the larger Luther community can assist in locating the work. This week, we feature: "Three Cheers for Monticello, Ya, Ya, Ya, So Say the Kids." Check out the link below and contact Kate Elliott, <ellika03>, with information on the missing piece.
