Suicide prevention week resources

Suicide Prevention Week is Sept. 8-14. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students, and there are often signs that a person is considering suicide. Faculty, staff and students can access information about responding to concerns for others on Luther's Counseling Service website: https://www2.luther.edu/counseling/. The site includes a list of crisis resources as well as a description of behaviors that might signal risk of suicide.

Atomic Learning discontinued, Lynda's back

Due to minimal usage we have stopped subscribing to the Atomic Learning video learning collection. We have re-allocated the funds to Lynda.com licenses. Those interested in access to Lynda.com should contact the Technology Help Desk at <helpdesk> or 387-1000.

Have you seen me?

The Luther College Fine Arts Collection has completed our full-campus Art Inventory. Each week we'll feature one work of art that isn't where we thought it would be in hopes that the larger Luther community can assist in locating the work. This week, we feature the beautiful painting, "Etude #2," last seen in Main on the lower level. Click here: https://fac.luther.edu/search/index.php/Detail/Object/Show/object_id/253 to view the work. Know where it is? Please contact Kate Elliott <ellika03>.

Double side it

All classroom, lab, and residence hall printers now have duplex printers to save paper and energy. For a complete listing, visit https://www2.luther.edu/helpdesk/services/computerlabs/. Contact the Document Center, 387-1631, with questions.

Counseling resources

The Counseling Service website offers a wealth of information and resources that should prove helpful in working with students. Have a look at: Services; Crisis Resources; How to Help (especially Suicide Prevention and Violence Prevention); and For Faculty: Getting Help for Students. On the homepage, scroll down to "News & Updates" for "What We Do & Who We Serve," with data highlights displayed via charts from 2013-2014.

Sign up for The Bulletin

The Bulletin is published for the Luther community by the Campus Programming Office every Tuesday and Friday when classes are in session.  Sign up to receive The Bulletin: http://visitor.r20.constantcontact.com/d.jsp?llr=mplfaalab&p=oi&m=1111322963436&sit=4djsyekhb&f=f64e10ec-93e7-4cbf-956b-1be0c6091b14

A note from the Student Philanthropy Council

Each fall, nearly 400 Luther students volunteer their time to call for Phonathon. These students connect with alumni, parents and friends, raising nearly $250,000 for the Luther College Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is a $1.8 million dollar effort that supports scholarships, academics and living at Luther.

Please take a moment during classes, meetings or activities to thank students who are volunteering. They make a huge difference for each and every one of us on campus. Without them, what we do would not be possible.

Registration for campus blood draw

Slots are now available for campus blood draws on Sept. 18 and 25, Oct. 2 and 16. Register online here. Cost for the general wellness blood draw is $35, the PSA is $40, and an A1C is $30. The fee must be paid at the blood screening, but will get reimbursed through Midwest Group Benefits. For those that are having their A1C checked, that will not be reimbursed through Luther and will have to go through your Flex. Those participating need to fast for 12 hours prior to the blood draw, but may drink water during the fast. Contact Vicky <jaegervi> for more information. Just a reminder that all Luther employees need to have a blood screen, physical and complete the Health Risk Assessment by the end of December to avoid a rise in their health insurance premium.
