Center Stage Series: 'Anonymous 4' at Luther College Nov. 6

Anonymous 4, covering everything from medieval music to contemporary classical, will perform as part of Luther College's Center Stage Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The quartet will perform their program "Grace and Glory: Sacred Song from Medieval France and Early America," featuring French motets and their program American shape-not tunes, gospel songs and folk hymns from the 18th-20th centuries.

57th annual Dorian Keyboard Festival Nov. 7-9

Luther will host the 57th annual Dorian Keyboard Festival Nov. 7-9. Middle and high school piano and organ students, from approximately 30 private studios, come to campus for a chance to experience Luther, work one-on-one with music faculty and perform in public recitals.

Luther Concert Band to present concert Nov. 9

The Luther College Concert Band will perform a Veteran's Day concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in the CFL Main Hall. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Veterans Day Chapel Nov. 10

Join the community for Veterans Day Chapel Monday, Nov. 10, 10:30-10:50 a.m. in the CFL Main Hall. Weston Noble, Professor Emeritus of Music, will share reflections on scripture and his experience as a World War II veteran. Cantorei, directed by Linda Martin, will offer music. Please contact the College Ministries Office, 387-1040 or <ministry>, to provide names of Luther students, faculty or staff who are currently serving in the military so that they may be included in chapel prayers.

Art Song Jamboree Nov. 10

The first Song Jam of the 2014-15 Art Song Jamboree series will be held at 5:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the Recital Hall of the CFL. The Art Song Jamboree concerts are open to the public with no charge for admission. The Art Song Jamboree series is dedicated to the exploration of art song written by women composers of all eras and nationalities, and in all musical styles and languages. Jessica Paul is the creator and lead advocate of the series that offers two performances throughout the academic year.

The chamber groups, selected the week preceding the recital, are determined via an application process. The recital of selected groups is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Luther College will host a Preview Day Monday, Nov. 10, giving prospective students the opportunity to experience the quality of life on campus, discover the academic excellence of Luther students, and explore what life at Luther is really like. Prospective students are welcome to invite family members along for the visit. Come learn about Luther's campus with a student-led tour and see the best places to study, eat and play.

Children's bargain book blowout Nov. 10

The Luther Book Shop will hold a children's bargain book sale beginning Monday, Nov. 10, offering hundreds of titles. No books will be priced over $5.99. A great selection is offered which includes holiday titles. The sale continues while supplies last.

'Adam Smith and the Wizard of Oz, or: The Invisible Hand Behind the Curtain'

Luther College aims to prepare students to "serve with distinction for the common good." What, though, if people have different ideas about how the common good is to be achieved? Do we need central planning to coordinate everyone's efforts? Nick Gomersall, associate professor of economics at Luther College, will discuss this influential idea at at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the Recital Hall of the CFL.

Varsity Band and Wind and Percussion Ensemble Concert Nov. 12

The Varsity Band and Wind and Percussion Ensemble will present a fall concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Main Hall of the CFL. Varsity Band and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble are directed by Joan deAlbuquerque, Luther associate professor of music and director of bands. Varsity Band will perform "Suite on Celtic Folk Songs" by Tomohiro Tatebe, "Appalachian Overture" by James Barnes, "Prelude and Celebration" by James Curnow and "Beguine for Band" by Glenn Osser.

SAC Fall Fest Nov. 13

As the weather gets colder, the Luther community is invited to warm up indoors at Luther College's Student Activities Council Fall Fest at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Marty's located in the Dahl-Centennial Union on campus. The night will feature the many talents of Luther's student performers, with groups such as Orchesis, Beautiful Mess, and Vera Bang and the Bad Pornstars performing. Hot cider and cookies will be available to all who attend.

Mixing buoyant and effortlessly catchy upbeat melodies, with much darker lyrical themes. Jeremy Messersmith will perform his original melancholy indie pop at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Marty's Café. Messersmith explained, "I generally like to balance out the bitter and the sweet in my songs. The happier something is musically, the darker it can be lyrically, you can kind of sneak it in there and that's a little more appealing to me." 'In the Next Room' by Sarah Ruhl

The Visual and Performing Art department presents "In the Next Room (or the vibrator play)" by Sarah Ruhl. The performances will be held in the Jewell Theatre. Due to adult themes and content, only mature audiences are encouraged to attend. Luther College Brass Ensembles to perform concert Nov. 19

Luther College's Brass Ensembles will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the CFL Main Hall on the Luther campus. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. The concert includes performances by Luther's Mass Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Choir, Trombone Choir and Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble.

Join Molly Lesmeister for a six-week yoga session Oct. 27-Dec. 11 (no class Nov. 24 or 27). Two class options offered: Monday at 11:30 a.m. and Thursday at 12:45 p.m. Registration is $18 for one class per week and $36 for two classes per week.
