Wellness announcements

Dec. 31 is the deadline for the wellness checks for 2014. Each individual on the Luther plan must have completed all three steps of the wellness check and filled out the wellness check form.

When filling out the Health Risk Assessment, the primary insurance holder must register their secondary holder on the site, complete with a password. The password cannot be the same as the primary holder. To complete the Health Risk Assessment, please click here.

For individuals that paid to have their blood screening or wellness physicals, please submit receipts to Midwest Benefits to receive your reimbursement.

Stress Bingo cards may be turned in anytime before Jan. 5. Please turn them in to Vicky Jaeger in the Recreational Services office.

Wheel of Witty Words returns in January. Please email Vicky Jaeger, <jaegervi>, if choosing participate in the January wellness initiative. The game will begin on Jan. 1, and it runs through the month of January. It is a great way to start your New Year's resolutions with a fun motivation to exercise.

Tone Zone class resumes on Jan. 6. This is a half hour toning class that runs from 11:35 a.m.-12:05 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Sustainability work study and internship opportunities for summer 2015

Summer may be months and many degrees away, but now is the time to encourage students to think about summer employment. The Center for Sustainable Communities offers a wide range of work study and internship opportunities this summer. Opportunities include positions in the areas of land stewardship, sustainable food and agriculture, environmental education, gardening and recycling. Message from health services

Important: The CDC still recommends getting a flu vaccine. Even if vaccine effectiveness is reduced against "drifted" circulating viruses, the vaccine will protect from the other strains. Evidence also suggests the vaccine may make illness milder. Come to Health Service to get a flu shot today while supplies last.

GoPrint Pop-Up removal

Between the end of fall 2014 and the start of spring 2015, the GoPrint Pop-Up will be removed from all Luther faculty, staff, classroom and lab workstations. Rather than waiting for the Pop-Up to "pop," go to print.luther.edu using the browser bookmarks or quicklinks. LIS will add a shortcut to the taskbar in Windows or the dock for Mac. These methods are faster and more secure than the Pop-Up. For details, see GoPrint Pop-Up Removal.

Luther Soccer Winter Skills Clinic Jan. 11 and 18

The Luther College Men's and Women's soccer programs are offering a Winter Skills Clinic on two consecutive Sunday afternoons: Jan. 11 and 18. The cost is $55 and includes a t-shirt. Registration deadline is Jan. 9. All registration will take place online. To register and see more information see this website.

Pilates classes at Luther

Luther College is working in cooperation with Winneshiek Medical Center Rehab and Sports Medicine to provide Pilates Fitness classes for faculty and staff. Classes are held in the CFA dance studio on the second floor. The sessions run Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Feb. 4-March 11
March 25-April 29

Led by trained instructor, Bridgette Mitchell, STOTT Pilates classes base exercise on five basic principles emphasizing breath, spinal alignment and mobility. Exercises can be modified to skill level and needs, to ensure safety of the musculoskeletal system and provide profound results. Fee is $24 for the six-week session. Register on the first day of class.

Those who complete four of the six classes in each session will receive a $25 Luther gift card.

Also, there are bonus classes offered in January. The bonus classes for faculty and staff are free and open enrollment. Simply show up. Equipment is provided. Bonus class dates are Wednesdays, Jan 14 and 21.

J-term chapel invitation: Drawing on the community patterns of J-term, College Ministries invites people into community daily during J-term at 10:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesdays will involve music and preaching in the CRH; Tuesdays we will gather for Table Talk in Marty's, an informal conversation with the campus pastors; Thursdays we will gather for Community Singing with Liz Rog in the CRH; and Fridays we have the opportunity to walk the Prayer Labyrinth in the CRH.

'Relief Etchings' on display Jan. 16-March 13

"Relief Etchings by Malcolm Graeme Childers," from the collection of Craig Kitchen, will be on display Jan. 16-March 13, in Preus Library. The exhibit, displaying nine original relief etchings as well as a drawing by Childers, is open to the public with no charge for admission. A true "Renaissance Man," Childers works as an artist, photographer, printmaker, writer and composer. For more information about Malcolm Childers visit Childers' website: www.roadsongs.com.

To Elmer Hansen on the death of his brother, Ronald Hansen of Kansas City, Kansas. Ronald passed away peacefully at his home Dec. 11.
