The second on-campus wellness blood screening for 2016 will be held from 6:30-8 a.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Mott Room. Fasting is required for 12 hours prior to the blood draw. To sign up for a time, email Vicky, <jaegervi>. Cost for the basic blood draw is $35; a blood draw for a PSA test for men over age 40 is $40. Payment is required the day of the blood draw and will be reimbursed. Cost for an A1C blood draw is $30. For the A1C test, your physician must send the request to the lab before the day of the blood draw. The $30 fee will be applied to the normal deductible and out-of-pocket limits.

Strengths Sunday Workshop April 3

The next Strengths Sunday Workshop will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in Olin 213. Students take the assessment with the workshop to follow. Please encourage students to attend, as this is an excellent opportunity for seniors, juniors and sophomores to participate in Strengths if they have not already done so through a class, team or other group during their time at Luther. Spring tennis for students in grades K-8

Assistant coach Miriam Skrade is teaming up with Luther tennis players to offer tennis clinics for students in grades K-8. Clinics will be held on Luther's outdoor tennis courts on five Tuesdays this spring: April 5, 12 and 26, and May 3 and 10. May 17 will be a make-up date if an earlier date is rained out. Students in grades K-4 meet from 5:45-6:30 p.m.; 5th-8th graders meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $30 for students in grades K-4, $40 for students in grades 5-8. Sustainability news: Charge with the wind

When the wind is strong enough, Luther's wind turbine is capable of producing more electricity than we can use on campus. The excess energy produced by the turbine is fed back to the grid and used in Decorah. Sunny, breezy days are great times to charge computers or phones, do laundry, or cook a meal.

Leadership for Community Health Improvement workshop June 15-17

Luther's Center for Sustainable Communities, in partnership with the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative, will host community leaders from throughout the Midwest for an interactive three-day workshop, Leadership for Community Health Improvement. Scheduled for June 15-17, the workshop focuses on changing conditions in communities in five key areas: food systems development, increasing opportunities for active daily living, school intervention policies, working with early childhood centers and youth leadership.

Community supported agriculture rebates for 2016

Eat well and support local farmers. Employee households are eligible to receive up to $100 towards the purchase of a community supported agriculture share in 2016. A list of participating CSA farms and share options can be found online. There's something for everyone.

Luther community garden plots available

Gardening season is right around the corner. Whether a lifelong gardener looking for a new space, a new gardener interested in growing some veggies for the first time or somewhere in-between, everyone is welcome at the community garden. We offer full (20'x20') plots for $30, half plots (20'x10') for $20 and student plots (10'x10') for $10. Fill out the request form to reserve a plot. 

Lunch hour yoga starts March 30

Join Molly Lesmeister for a six-week yoga session March 30-May 4. The class meets at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays in Studio II in the CFA. Classes are 50 minutes in length. Props are provided, no experience necessary. Registration is $18. Payment is due the first day of class; make checks payable to Luther College. To register, email Molly, [email protected].

Women, Faith and Finance seminar

Luther will host the 12th annual Women, Faith and Finance seminar Friday, April 8, at the Hotel Winneshiek. Women of all ages are invited to come learn more about financial management, retirement and estate planning, and charitable giving. Registration is $30; bring a friend and each participant will save $5. First 75 paid registrants receive their choice of two resource books. Health care update

Luther College health care participants have access to a dedicated team of UMR representatives by phone from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Calls made outside of these hours are answered through UMR's larger call service center. The phone number is on your UMR health care card. An online chat service is also available 24/7 upon signing in to www.umr.com.

2016 summer reading

The Paideia 111-112 planning committee has chosen Karen Joy Fowler's novel "We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves" as the 2016 summer reading. It's a book about behavioral science, the ethics of animal research as well as animal rights, and a unique bond in a not-quite-ordinary family.

Study away photo prize drawing

McKenna Campbell-Potter '16 won the $50 gift card prize drawing for students who submitted their study away photos to the Luther Alumni Magazine. The magazine, with a display of student photos, will be published in May.
