ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sexual misconduct training

Luther College is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment where all members of the community—students, faculty, staff and visitors—are treated with respect and dignity. Therefore, the college will not tolerate sexual misconduct in any form. Sexual misconduct is not only an act against an individual; it is also an act that affects the entire college community.

As part of Luther's comprehensive prevention program, all faculty and staff must complete Haven for Faculty and Staff. This online training provides critical education on sexual harassment and connections with support resources, discusses factors that contribute to sexual and relationship violence and empowers faculty and staff to become leaders in prevention. Log-in instructions and a registration code were sent to all faculty and staff email addresses on March 15. Please complete Part One of the training (approximately 60 minutes in length) by April 8. After 30 days you will receive an invitation to complete Part Two of the training (approximately 10 minutes). Contact Matt Bills, <bills>, with questions.

Sustainability news: Charge with the wind

When the wind is strong enough, Luther's wind turbine is capable of producing more electricity than we can use on campus. The excess energy produced by the turbine is fed back to the grid and used in Decorah. Sunny, breezy days are great times to charge computers or phones, do laundry, or cook a meal.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

And finally...

March 21-25 is Iowa's Severe Weather Awareness Week. Winneshiek County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will conduct a severe weather drill from 10-10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24. The Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and the Calmar Police Department will participate in the National Weather Service's statewide drill. Outdoor warning sirens will be activated countywide by the Decorah Communication Dispatchers. All sirens will be sounded for 3-5 minutes to test for functionality.

Subsequent shorter tests may occur depending on maintenance needs. Please refrain from calling 911 to inquire about the sirens, as you may take the dispatch person away from a true emergency. For questions or comments use the non-emergency lines by calling the Police Department at 382-3667 or the Sheriff’s Office at 382-4268.

Tests will also be conducted via weather radios:

10 a.m.: Tornado watch drill
10:15 a.m.: Tornado warning drill
10:30 a.m.: "All clear" drill
