Sexual misconduct training
Luther College is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment where all members of the community—students, faculty, staff and visitors—are treated with respect and dignity. Therefore, the college will not tolerate sexual misconduct in any form. Sexual misconduct is not only an act against an individual; it is also an act that affects the entire college community.
As part of Luther's comprehensive prevention program, all faculty and staff must complete Haven for Faculty and Staff. This online training provides critical education on sexual harassment and connections with support resources, discusses factors that contribute to sexual and relationship violence and empowers faculty and staff to become leaders in prevention. Log-in instructions and a registration code were sent to all faculty and staff email addresses on March 15. Please complete Part One of the training (approximately 60 minutes in length) by April 8. After 30 days you will receive an invitation to complete Part Two of the training (approximately 10 minutes). Contact Matt Bills, <bills>, with questions.

Staff Excellence Award
Staff and faculty are invited to nominate an administrative or support staff person for the Staff Excellence Awards. A TIAA financial consultant will be on campus April 12-14. Sign up for an individual appointment to discuss your personal financial situation, investments and financial goals. Meetings are available at the following times:

Reminder: March 31 deadline for Krahn and Kuh Awards
March 31 is the deadline for nominations for the Krahn Family Student Life Service Award and applications for the Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award. Information regarding the awards is available on the Student Life website. Please consider nominating students for the Krahn Award and encourage students to apply for the Kuh Award.
Panic! At The Disco concert rescheduled for April 9
Due to a touring conflict, the Panic! At The Disco concert originally scheduled for April 16 has been moved to April 9. Location and times remain the same. SAC Concerts will honor tickets with the April 16 date. Ticket holders who are unable to attend the April 9 performance may return their tickets to the Luther Ticket Office for a full refund. Wellness blood screening April 14
The second on-campus wellness blood screening for 2016 will be held from 6:30-8 a.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Mott Room. Fasting is required for 12 hours prior to the blood draw. To sign up for a time, email Vicky, <jaegervi>. Cost for the basic blood draw is $35; a blood draw for a PSA test for men over age 40 is $40. Payment is required the day of the blood draw and will be reimbursed. Cost for an A1C blood draw is $30. For the A1C test, your physician must send the request to the lab before the day of the blood draw. The $30 fee will be applied to the normal deductible and out-of-pocket limits.
There will be another blood draw on Tuesday, May 3. To make an appointment for May 3, email Vicky, <jaegervi>.
Strengths session for faculty and staff
Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a Strengths professional development session from 2:30-3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in Mott-Borlaug. The conversation will focus on ways to support students in developing and applying their most innate gifts and talents as they pursue their academic, personal and professional goals. The session is intended for faculty and staff who have already taken the StrengthsFinder assessment. Luther's Strengths Facilitator Team and Ken Barr, Jr., director of Student Strengths Development at Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Michigan, will facilitate the session. Faculty/staff Pilates starts April 4
Faculty/staff Pilates will start Spring Session II on Monday, April 4, and run for six weeks, ending May 9. The class meets in CFA Studio II from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Please arrive or leave early to accommodate your schedule. Cost for the six-week session is $24. Fitness swimming classes April 2-30
Fitness swimming classes will be offered April 2-30. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday sessions are available; cost is $20 for one day of the week or $45 for all three days of the week. Strengths Sunday Workshop April 3
The next Strengths Sunday Workshop will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in Olin 213. Students will take the assessment with the workshop to follow. Spring tennis for students in grades K-8
Assistant coach Miriam Skrade is teaming up with Luther tennis players to offer tennis clinics for students in grades K-8. Clinics will be held on Luther's outdoor tennis courts on five Tuesdays this spring: April 5, 12 and 26, and May 3 and 10. May 17 will be a make-up date if an earlier date is rained out. Students in grades K-4 meet from 5:45-6:30 p.m.; 5th-8th graders meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $30 for students in grades K-4, $40 for students in grades 5-8. Leadership for Community Health Improvement workshop June 15-17
Luther's Center for Sustainable Communities, in partnership with the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative, will host community leaders from throughout the Midwest for an interactive three-day workshop, Leadership for Community Health Improvement. Scheduled for June 15-17, the workshop focuses on changing conditions in communities in five key areas: food systems development, increasing opportunities for active daily living, school intervention policies, working with early childhood centers and youth leadership.

Luther will host the 12th annual Women, Faith and Finance seminar Friday, April 8, at the Hotel Winneshiek. Religion Forum lecture March 29
Michael Engelhardt and Deborah Norland will discuss the flight of Syrian refugees from their homeland at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the CRH. In their lecture, titled "Displacement, Fear and Hope: The Impermanence of Place for Syrian Refugees," Norland will convey personal stories of working among Syrian refugees in Turkey, and Engelhardt will discuss the underlying causes of the war, the multi-faceted nature of the conflict and the shifting alliances that make this and other such conflicts difficult to resolve. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission. A reception will follow in Qualley Lounge.
Faculty Artist Series: Michael Smith, trombone and euphonium
Michael Smith will perform a trombone and euphonium recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the NRH. Accompanied by Du Huang, Smith will perform Hannes Meyer's "Sonata in C-minor" on themes of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi on the alto trombone, "Concerto for Tenor Trombone, Opus 35" by František Domažlický, "Fantaisie Concertante" for bass trombone by Jacques Castérède and "Sonatina for Euphonium and Synthesizer" by John Boda. The recital is open to the public with no charge for admission.
'How do we tell our own stories while respecting the stories of others?'
Michael Ehrecke '15, will perform a continuation of his senior project at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in Storre Theatre. The performance explores the notion of self-hood, asking, "How do we tell our own stories while respecting the stories of others?" A workshop and panel discussion will explore how to use theatre to affect change at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in CFA Studio I. Sponsored by the Career Center, no registration necessary. 'PCBs: New Knowledge Gained from Old Pollutants'
Larry Robertson will present "PCBs: New Knowledge Gained from Old Pollutants" at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, March 31, in Valders 206. Robertson directs the Iowa Superfund project, which uses a variety of scientific and community-based approaches to study the effects of air and water pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls. The Biology department and Center for Ethics and Public Life are sponsoring Robertson's visit, including a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31. Concert Band homecoming concert March 31
The Luther College Concert Band will close their 2016 spring break Midwest tour with a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the CFL Main Hall. The program features a range of both traditional and contemporary band literature, including "Dance of the Jesters" by Tchaikovsky, "Rio Grande" by Michael Daugherty, "Everything Beautiful" by Samuel Hazo, "Star Wars" by John Williams, "A Weekend in New York" by Philip Sparke, "Molly on the Shore" by Percy Grainger and "Transcendent Journey" by Rossano Galante.The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission and will be streamed live.
Delta Rae concert April 1
SAC Spotlight presents American folk-rock band Delta Rae at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the CFL Main Hall. Singer-songwriter and Iowa native Chris Bathgate will open the show. Luther College Dance Marathon April 2
More than 400 Luther students will dance for 12 hours straight on Saturday, April 2, to raise money and awareness for children with lifelong illnesses. Come support Luther dancers and help LCDM reach its goal of raising $65,000 in the third annual Dance Marathon. Community hours are from 1-5 p.m. All proceeds raised benefit the Children's Miracle Network through the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Questions? Contact Emily, <starem01>.

Faculty and students present final SONG JAM April 4
Bringing to a close nine years of unique performances, the final SONG JAM, a performance series devoted to art song by women composers, will take place at 5:15 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the CFL Recital Hall. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Jessica Paul, creator and lead advocate of Luther's SONG JAM, will collaborate on piano for the concert. She will retire at the end of the 2015-16 academic year. Faculty performers are soprano Karen Kanakis, and mezzo-soprano Jill Phillips. Student singers include sopranos Emily Dirks, Hannah Leeper, Marie Sauze and Emily Secor; mezzo-sopranos Christy Emanuelson, Natalie Rumer and Kaitlyn York; tenors Pyi Phyo Aung, Wesley Frye and Samuel Scheidt; baritones Jason Erbst, Will Heller, Jonathan Kobs and Brandon Whitish; and bass Grant Holsinger.

Deanna Casterton is president-elect of the National Association of College Stores Foundation for 2016-17. She is currently serving as vice president of the foundation. Deanna has worked in the Luther College Book Shop for 25 years and has served as director for five years.
Todd Green gave a lecture at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, on March 22 titled "Understanding and Combatting Islamophobia: Building Bridges in Community." He also gave a lecture at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on March 23 titled "What's Driving Islamophobia in America? Fear, Freedom and the Responsibilities of Democracy."
Jim Martin-Schramm presented "Local Jurisdictions Going Solar with Leases and Power Purchase Agreements" at the Solar Powering Iowa conference March 24 in Cedar Rapids.
Jill Wilson presented three collaborative research projects at the National Association for Music Education's biennial research conference in Atlanta, Georgia: "Preparing Pre-Service Music Educators: Who, How, When?" with Jamila McWhirter, Middle Tennessee State University; "Cooperating Teachers' Perceptions of Hosting Student Teachers as Professional Development" with Alden Snell, University of Delaware, and Carolyn Cruse, Texas Tech University; and a poster titled "A Preliminary Examination of Music Education Students' Perceptions of Essential Professional Teaching Dispositions" with Natalie Royston, Iowa State University.
