The Winneshiek Energy District and Seed Savers Exchange are co-hosting the Up! Up! Film Festival April 13-23 in Decorah. Up! Up! is a collection of independently produced films and shorts, each exploring questions of farmland access, rural livelihoods and the sustainability of people and place. Luther College Woman's Club meeting April 19

The Luther College Woman's Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in Peace Dining Room. Laurie Magnus of NEI Agency on Aging will present "Caregiving: A Growing Concern." Recognizing the part transportation plays in many lives, brief presentations will also be made by a Hometown Taxi driver as well as Sam Castro, mobility manager for NEI Community Action. Music and refreshments will round out the afternoon. A shuttle to the Union will leave the swimming pool parking lot at 1:10 p.m. All women are welcome.

Collegiate Chorale homecoming concert April 19

Collegiate Chorale will perform a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the CFL Main Hall. The performance, open to the public with no charge for admission, concludes Collegiate Chorale's 2016 Midwest tour. The 2016 Collegiate Chorale tour program includes "Little Man in a Hurry" by Eric Whitacre, "Gospel Mass" by Robert Ray, "Crucifixus" by Anotonio Lotti and "Freut Euch und Jubilieret" by Sethus Calvisius. 'Paper Tigers' documentary and discussion April 20

An inspiring story of struggle, change and success, ''Paper Tigers'' follows the lives of six ''troubled'' teenagers and the adults who helped them change the course of their lives. A screening of ''Paper Tigers" will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in Valders 262. The screening, recommended for people age 16 and older, is open to the public with no charge for admission. Following the screening, a panel of experts will join viewers to discuss the film and ways to affect change on both a macro and micro level.

Varsity Band and Wind and Percussion Ensemble concert April 20

The Luther College Varsity Band and Wind and Percussion Ensemble will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the CFL Main Hall. Varsity Band will perform "Portrait of Freedom" by Steven Reineke; "Romance" by Axel Jorgensen, featuring faculty soloist Benjamin Yates on trombone; "The Empire Strikes Back" by John Williams, transcribed by Jack Bullock; and "El Relicario" by Jose Padilla, arranged by Robert Longfield. The Wind and Percussion Ensemble will perform "The Spirit of the Pioneers" by James Curnow, "The Spheres" by Ola Gjeilo, "Resting in the Peace of His Hands" by John Gibson and "The First Suite in F" by Thom Ritter George. Religion Forum presents Steve Downs April 21

Steve Downs, attorney at law, will reflect on the question of who speaks for the common good and what the role of religion is when religions themselves act like tribes in his lecture titled, "Tribal Justice and the Erosion of Civil Rights: How Scapegoating Muslims Threatens Us All," at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the CRH. A reception will follow in Qualley Lounge. The lecture and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.  

Author reading April 21

Reading from a tale of one man's resolve to right his wrongs and make peace with his place in the world, author and editor Robert James Russell will read from his recent western novel "Mesilla" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Olin 102. The event, sponsored by the English department and the Lecture and Fine Arts Committee, is open to the public with no charge for admission.            

Philharmonia concert April 21

The Luther College Philharmonia will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the NRH. The 25-member string orchestra will perform Handel's Concerto Grosso in G Major, Op. 6, No. 1, "Capriol Suite" by Peter Warlock, "Andante Festivo" by Sibelius, and a group of pieces based on hymn tunes. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Solar array dedication on Earth Day, April 22

Luther will celebrate Earth Day by dedicating three solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays, capable of producing 820 kW of electricity. With this additional capacity, the college once again hosts the most solar PV capacity in the state of Iowa (1,100 kW). Luther students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend a dedication ceremony and celebration at 4 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the solar field site on Pole Line Road. Attendees are encouraged to walk or take a shuttle bus to the solar field site. Shuttles will leave from both the municipal swimming pool lot and the Union at 3:25 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. In the event of heavy rain, the dedication and reception will be held in Hammarskjold Lounge.

Cantorei and Luther Ringers concert April 22

Luther ensembles Cantorei and Luther Ringers will perform a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the NRH. Cantorei, comprised of about 50 female singers from the sophomore, junior and senior class, will perform "Why We Sing," with selections from a wide variety of genres including African processionals, spirituals and vocal jazz. Luther Ringers, comprised of 13 auditioned students, performs on a five-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a six-octave set of Malmark handchimes. They will perform Processional in F by Sandra Eithun, "Hyfrydol" by Charles E. Peery, "Pleiades" by Lee J. Afdahl '71, as well as "Let It Go" from Disney's "Frozen" by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and more. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Student recitals

Student recitals are held in the Noble Recital Hall and are followed by a reception. Both the recitals and receptions are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Dancing with the Luther Stars event April 23

Three Luther faculty members paired with three students from the college's ballroom dance team go head-to-head in the new competition "Dancing with the Luther Stars." Based on the popular ABC television show, the event brings excitement and some friendly rivalry to the Luther campus at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the CFL Main Hall. Tickets are on sale for $5 in Luther's Ticket Office.

April 24 is Reconciling in Christ Sunday

The Luther College Congregation will celebrate Reconciling in Christ Sunday on April 24. Please join us in worship at 10 a.m. in the CFL Main Hall as we celebrate that the Luther College congregation is a Reconciling in Christ congregation. This festival service features student preachers and includes musical offerings by Cathedral Choir and Philharmonia. RIC is a program of ReconcilingWorks, formerly Lutherans Concerned/North America, that affirms the welcome of all persons, regardless of sexual orientation. As an RIC congregation, we affirm our welcome to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons to fully participate in our ministry. 

Jazz Orchestra concert April 28

Jazz Orchestra will perform a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the CFL Main Hall. The performance, which is open to the public with no charge for admission, concludes the Jazz Orchestra's "Jazz Appreciation Month" tour of the Upper Midwest. Leadership giving officer: The Development Office seeks a full-time leadership giving officer. In support of the Luther College President's Council, the college's premiere giving society, the leadership giving officer will work to secure visits with prospective leadership-level donors and new and renewed multi-year pledges to the Annual Fund. Independent travel to meet donors throughout the greater Midwest and the United States is required. A bachelor's degree and one-two years of development/fundraising experience is required; higher education experience is preferred. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license.

Dorian Festivals and Summer Camps coordinator: The music department seeks a full-time coordinator for Dorian Festivals and summer music camps. The coordinator assists with the department's recruitment of prospective music students. Internal candidates, including spouses, are encouraged to apply.
