November staff meeting
The agenda for the November staff meeting includes presentations on Norse athletics, Title IX, and music organizations and tours. The meeting will be held in Peace Dining Room at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, and again at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. All staff are strongly encouraged to attend one of the two sessions.
Norse Fan of the Game

Campus Programming reminder
All public events are to be planned with the Campus Programming Office in order to both secure time on our campus calendar and to reserve a facility. All events, or rooms needed for any use, including non-public meetings, can be reserved by submitting a Reservation Form. Events are not to be advertised until finalized with Campus Programming.
Luther lights
With the help of LaCrosse consulting company Michaels Energy and a number of student volunteers, Luther completed a comprehensive campus lighting survey in 2014-15. Every classroom, office and open space was evaluated for enhanced energy reduction features, including occupancy sensors, daylighting and multi-level switching. This evaluation also paved the way for future energy efficiency initiatives such as LED lighting for offices and public spaces. Contact Sam, <pollsa01>, for more information.
United Way campaign update
Thank you to everyone who has donated to the United Way of Winneshiek County. Those who have not yet donated may do so any time. A prize drawing among donors will be held Nov. 20. Luther contributions usually make up 12-15 percent of the campaign goal. Currently, we are at 4.7 percent. This year, the United Way is assisting 20 agencies who ensure people in need have food, heat, shelter, and other necessities. Please give completed donation forms to Human Resources. Need a form? Davis Projects for Peace
Luther has been invited to participate in the summer 2016 Davis Projects for Peace. Since 2007, Luther students have carried out summer peace projects in 12 different countries around the world.
Luther students (working alone or in groups) interested in designing and implementing their own grassroots projects for peace are encouraged to submit proposals of three pages or less by Jan. 11. Each project selected receives funding of $10,000.

Brass ensembles concert Nov. 3
Luther's brass ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the CFL Main Hall. Ensembles include Horn Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, Trombone Choir and the Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble. The Clarinet Choir will join the brass ensembles for the concert. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Keep It Going event: A campus conversation on Islamophobia, education and civil rights
The Luther community is invited to reflect on the arrest of Ahmed Mohamed, a 14-year-old Muslim student from Texas, at 7 p.m Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Marty's. A panel with Todd Green, Jeannette Pillsbury and students will open conversation around this event and what it means for Luther students. The discussion will encourage reflection on U.S. education and justice systems. The conversation will be moderated by Robert Shedinger.

CANCELED: Peace Scholars presentation
2015 Peace Scholars Emily Holm and Katie Kovacovich will host a brown-bag lunch presentation at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the Borlaug Room to share their experience in the Peace Scholars program. Luther is one of six colleges that sends students on scholarship to participate in this prestigious program each year. Students who are interested in the Peace Scholars program are encouraged to attend the presentation. Norwegian treats will be provided.
Center Stage Series: Sibling piano quintet The 5 Browns Nov. 6
Waking up classical music with their fresh energy and dynamic sound, sibling piano quintet The 5 Browns will perform as part of the Center Stage Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in the CFL Main Hall. Tickets, on sale in Luther's Ticket Office, are $26 for adults, $24 for seniors age 65 and over and $15 for youth ages 4-18.

'Unmasked' photography exhibit opens Nov. 12
Freelance photojournalist Lynn Johnson depicts recovering veterans of the Middle East wars in her large-scale photography exhibit "Unmasked: Soldiers Heal from Blast Force Damage," on display Nov. 12 to Jan. 10 in Preus Library. The exhibit is open to the public with no charge for admission.
A gallery reception will be held from 5-7:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Hovde Room. A special invitation is extended to area veterans and their families to come together for the reception.
CSS presents 'Letters Home' Nov. 12
The Griffin Theatre Company will perform "Letters Home" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in CFL Main Hall. Tickets, on sale in Luther's Ticket Office, are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors age 65 and over and $15 for youth ages 4-18; there will be a special discounted ticket price of $15 for men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military.
School Matinee Performance: 'Letters Home' Nov. 13
Luther's School Matinee Performance series presents the Griffin Theatre Company's "Letters Home" at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in the CFL Main Hall. The performance, recommended for students in grades 6-12, brings to life actual letters written by soldiers serving in the Middle East and their families. The matinee performance is modified for school-age audiences.
Sustainable Communities cooking class Nov. 13
Throughout the year the Center for Sustainable Communities provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to experience new cooking skills and techniques through a variety of classes. Try your hand at making the Ukrainian version of stuffed cabbage from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in Valders 379 with Maryna Bazylevych. Stuffed with a mixture of rice, meat and vegetables and served warm, this may be the perfect dish to warm up those chilly fall evenings. Register for the class online.
Motionpoems showing Nov. 13
Minnesota poet and executive and artistic director of Motionpoems, Inc., Todd Boss, will present a showing of short film adaptations called motionpoems at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in Valders 206. Motionpoems turn contemporary poems into short films. The films—each two or three minutes long—combine striking visuals with music and spoken word. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Dorian Keyboard Festival Nov. 13-15
Luther will host the 58th annual Dorian Keyboard Festival Nov. 13-15, welcoming middle and high school piano and organ students from across the Midwest for a chance to experience Luther, work one-on-one with music faculty and perform in public recitals. The festival includes several recitals and performances which are open to the public with no charge for admission.
APO Parent's Night Out
Alpha Phi Omega, a student-led service fraternity, will host a kid's activity night for children ages 5-11 from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Regents Center North Gym. Inaugural Norse Unity Bowl Nov. 15
Luther's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host a Special Olympics bowling event and introduction of athletes at halftime of the Luther men's basketball game at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Regents Center. Bowling will follow at Oneota Lanes, 400 N. Mill St., Decorah. Registration deadline is Nov. 8.
Symphony Orchestra concert Nov. 15
The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Daniel Baldwin, will present their fall concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the CFL Main Hall. The orchestra will perform selections from Bernstein, Arvo Pärt, Sergei Prokofiev and Dvorák. The concert will feature Namuun Tsend-Ayush '17 on violin. Tsend-Ayush is one of the winners of the Department of Music 2015 Concerto Competition. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Nancy K. Barry participated in the NONFICTION NOW conference held in Flagstaff, Arizona, Oct. 29-31. She gave a paper on "The Audible Essay" as a contributor to the panel, "Making Radio Waves: The Craft of Public Writing."
Todd Green was interviewed in the latest issue of Islamic Horizons, a magazine published by the Islamic Society of North America. The interview focuses on Green's newest book, "The Fear of Islam," as well as his views on the racialization of terrorism, U.S. support for torture, the gendering of radicalization theories, and the relationship between Islamophobia and other forms of racial and religious bigotry. The article can be accessed online.
Green also participated on an interfaith panel at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, on Oct. 22. The theme of the panel was "If I Am Only For Myself," and its focus was the importance of standing up for the religious "Other." The panel was sponsored by Drew's Center on Religion, Culture, and Conflict.
Jessica Paul appeared recently as guest artist and clinician at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where she taught a master class to voice and piano students, then performed in concert with soprano Rachel Ware Carlton, class of '06 and former faculty member, and soprano Emily Davis '13. Carlton is the director of graduate and undergraduate music and assistant professor of voice at Silver Lake College. Davis is an adjunct member of the voice faculty at Silver Lake.
Keith Lesmeister's essay, "On Guns and Gun Control," was published in The Good Men Project.
Rita Tejada's annotated edition of "Cosas añejas: Tradiciones y episodios de Santo Domingo" has been published by Archivo General de la Nación in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The book was released on Oct. 27 at the Book Fair of Dominican History.
