Sustainability tip: cool is clean

Using cold water to wash clothes reduces energy consumption by roughly 90 percent compared to using hot water. Cold water has additional benefits for fabrics and cleanliness as well. Preserve the integrity of clothing by avoiding hot water, which has been shown to weaken threads. Cold water prevents stains from setting into fabric and most modern detergents are designed to function in lower temperatures. Save money, time and clothing by making the sustainable decision to use cold water.

United Way campaign update

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the United Way of Winneshiek County. A prize drawing among donors will be held Nov. 20. Luther contributions usually make up 12–15 percent of the campaign goal. Currently we are at nine percent.
