Save the date: Mid-year update Jan. 27
Faculty and staff are invited to attend President Carlson's mid-year update at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in Valders 206. The update was originally scheduled for the following week, but was moved due to scheduling conflicts with other events. Following President Carlson's remarks, there will be a reception in the Valders Concourse. This is a time to gather as a community and reconnect with one another before the start of second semester. Offices should close, if possible, so that all can attend.
Admissions report available via KATIE
The monthly admissions report is now available in KATIE. Luther faculty and staff can access the report via KATIE approximately one week after the end of each month. To view the report, search for "enrollment data" in the Search Courses box in the upper-right corner of any KATIE page. If prompted to enroll, accept.
Sign up for W-2s online
All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to sign up to receive electronic W-2s using the link in the employee profile section of my.luther.edu. Electronic W-2s can be accessed from anywhere and not easily lost or stolen. Those that chose the electronic option for 2015 need not do it again for 2016. More detailed instructions and additional information can be found by clicking the W-2 Options link on the HR website.
TIAA-CREF counseling sessions
TIAA-CREF announces individual counseling sessions from 11 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 and 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13. Space is limited. Register online or call (800) 732-8353, weekdays 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Sessions will be held at the Financial Aid conference room, Main 27.

Next Steps: Experiential Learning
Encourage first-year and sophomore students to attend "Next Steps: Experiential Learning" 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Valders Hall of Science. Students will learn more about study abroad, internship and research opportunities at Luther. The event includes the January Term 2018 course reveal, a $500 prize and features Luther alumni Rachel Barclay, Donald Lee-Brown and Gabe Saemisch leading breakout sessions. Elementary school proposal information
The Land Use Committee has created a website;with information on the Anderson Prairie elementary school proposal where the Luther community can find information relevant to the proposal and the prairie, and submit commentary regarding the proposal. Public panels for the college community to discuss the proposal will be held in February; more details to come. Questions on the proposal can be directed to <landuse>.

Witty Words
Looking for a fun reason to work out in January? Join Witty Words, the January Wellness initiative. The game is played like Wheel of Fortune. During the entire month of January, there will be several word puzzles to be solved. Working out 30-60 minutes earns players chances to solve the puzzles. To sign up, email <wellness>.
Cafeteria to Community celebrates three-year anniversary
On Nov. 17, Luther hosted a partnership lunch to celebrate the successes of the Cafeteria to Community program with representatives from Decorah's First Lutheran Church Food Pantry, Luther College Dining Services and Luther's Center for Sustainable Communities. Over the past three years, more than 30,000 pounds of food have been packaged and shared with Northeast Iowans through this program. Escalation workshop
Don't cancel class! Faculty members considering cancelling class may consider the Escalation Workshop instead. It's a 90-minute workshop consisting of a film and discussion, provided by Luther staff and students trained by the One Love Foundation. Regardless of discipline, the workshop can provide valuable awareness and discussion about a topic students likely may not discuss elsewhere.
2-Step Verification: one more thing
All faculty and staff have enabled Google 2-Step Verification. Thank you! Center Stage Series: Calmus
With a program featuring the music of Martin Luther to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, a cappella group Calmus will perform "Luther's Lieder" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, in the CFL. To the family of Bruce and Marcia Gullickson on the death of Bruce's mother Mabel Gullickson Molokken of West Union who passed away Dec. 26. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 31, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.
To family of Weston Noble, who passed away Dec. 21. Services were held Dec. 29 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. There will be a memorial service on campus later in the spring, more information to come.

Assistant dean for student life/director of student rights and responsibilities: A .92 appointment, the assistant dean provides leadership to the student conduct system with a focus on individual and community responsibility and student learning, and will develop a restorative justice alternative dispute resolution process. Working closely with campus colleagues and stakeholders, the assistant dean will contribute to developing effective, educational outreach initiatives related to student rights and responsibilities.
Master's degree preferred in student personnel administration, counseling, higher education or related field. Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years experience in student affairs or closely related work experience required.
Regional admissions counselor or assistant director of admissions-Colorado: This position will be responsible for recruitment of students from Colorado, California and the western United States geographic area. This position will physically be located in the greater Denver area, with the candidate working from a home office. Duties will also include interviewing prospective students when on campus and assisting with other admissions-related activities/events as assigned. Extensive travel is required, and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when appropriate. Title will be based on the level of experience for the successful candidate.
Food and Farm fellow: The Center for Sustainable Communities is hiring a Food and Farm fellow for a 10 month, full-time, 40-hour/week position for Feb. 1-Nov. 30, 2017. Fellow is responsible for day-to-day operations at the college farm, including student supervision, management of the community garden and carrying out plans for the 2017 season. Additional responsibilities include marketing and communication, coordinating volunteer opportunities and tours, managing logistics for the Cafeteria to Community Program, implementing composting initiatives and coordinating food education classes. Qualified candidates must have a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree, at least one-year relevant work experience and a passion for sustainable agriculture and food systems.
Short-term campus programming technician: This is a 40-hour per week position lasting approximately 18 months. The campus programming technician offers technical support, collaborative planning with the head campus programming technician and quality customer service for all events in the CFL. Bachelor's or associates degree preferred. At least two years of experience working with audio systems and/or theatrical lighting; including design, set up, focusing and repair, and multi-media resources as well as experience or skill in leadership, analytical problem solving skills, the ability to work independently and with a team required.

Andy also published a conversation between novelist Jeff VanderMeer and philosopher Timothy Morton that he initiated and coordinated in the Los Angeles Review of Books.
Brooke Joyce's 2009 work,"Veni, Veni Emmanuel," premiered in a new version for brass quintet and orchestra Sunday, Dec. 4, by the Fort Dodge Symphony as part of their annual holiday concert.
Amy Weldon's short nonfiction piece on Gloucestershire Old Spots pigs in the orchard at Seed Savers Exchange, "Apple Eaters," is out in the November/December issue of Orion Magazine. The piece is an excerpt from her forthcoming book "The Hands-On Life: How to Wake Yourself Up and Save The World."
Loren Toussaint, Alexandra Hein '16, Kaley Herman '15 and Njabulo Maseko '15 had "Traumatic Stress Symptoms, Forgiveness, and Meaning in Life in Four Traumatized Regions of the World" published in International Perspectives in Psychology: Research, Practice, Consultation.
