Teladoc charges

UMR has a real time eligibility in place with Teladoc. Members in the $750 PPO plan will not pay anything at the time of service. Teladoc will submit a claim and UMR will pay them similar to any provider claim. Members in the high deductible health plan will pay $45 until they have met their deductible. Once their deductible is met, they also will not pay anything at the time of service. Essentially, it works just like a doctors office. Contact Marsha, <mwenthold>, with questions.

Erdman Entrepreneurial Scholarship

Encourage entrepreneurial students to apply of the Erdman Entrepreneurial Scholarship. The scholarship awards a grand prize of $5,000 and two awards of $2,500 for runners up. Applicants can be students of any year and any major that have started and managed a business during their time at Luther. Open house fitness sessions

Interested in improving your health and fitness, but unsure where to start or looking for help? Wellness is hosting an open house fitness session for faculty, staff and students 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. Wellness staff will be available to answer questions, demonstrate exercises and equipment in Legends, and give professional advice to get you started. Email <wellness> in advance to sign up for a time slot.

Wellness Series: foam roller edition

Monday, Feb. 27 at 9:30 a.m., noon >5:15 p.m. in Borlaug. Stop by during your break or after work for approximately 20 minutes and learn how to use a foam roller to alleviate musculoskeletal pain and increase flexibility and range of motion. Contact Vicky, <jaegervi>, with questions. 

Free Friday morning open gym

Parents and their children (0-5 years old) are invited to come burn off energy Fridays in February from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at an open gym inside Luther's North Gym and indoor track. There is no admission fee, and balls, scooters, etc. are provided. A parent/guardian must stay for supervision. Student recitals

Luther College Woman's Club meeting Feb. 21

The Luther College Woman's Club February meeting will feature Luther faculty members and "Body of Water" co-developers, Jane Hawley and Jodi Enos-Berlage, at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Peace Dining Room. Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program lecture

As part of the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Program, Luther will host Patricia Wright, primatologist and distinguished service professor of anthropology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Feb. 20-21. Wright's lecture, "Girl Power: Ladies Lead in the Lemurs of Madagascar," will focus on matriarchal social organization among lemurs in Madagascar. The lecture will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Valders 206 and will be preceded by a reception at 5 p.m. in the Valders Concourse. Both events are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Faculty Artist Series: Rachel Brandwein and Carol Hester

Rachel Brandwein and Carol Hester will perform a faculty flute and harp recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the NRH. Spencer Martin, viola, will perform alongside Brandwein and Hester on Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp. The program includes works by Debussy, Alan Hovhaness, Rachel Brandwein and others. The recital is open to the public with no charge for admission.

SAC Cinema: 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

SAC Cinema presents "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 in Valders 206. Doors open at 7 p.m. and event fee is $5. Free popcorn will be served while supplies last.

Music in the Shape of a Pear

The semi-annual "Music in the Shape of a Pear" concert series features a weekend-long festival of music Friday-Sunday, Feb. 24-26. All events throughout the festival are open to the public with no charge for admission. Four of the seven events will be held on campus:

SAC Spotlight: G Yamazawa

Widely considered one of the top spoken word artists in the country, slam poet G Yamazawa is performing at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Marty's. Tickets for the event, sponsored by SAC Spotlight, are $5 at the Ticket Office or at the door. Yamazawa has performed across the globe, and is known for his evocative performances on YouTube, where he lyrically critiques disunity and racism he knew growing up as a Japanese-American in the south.

Ethnic Arts Festival

The community is invited to celebrate the many cultures that come together in the name of education through the Luther College Diversity Center's annual Ethnic Arts Festival Saturday, Feb. 25. The festival includes a Country Fair from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. in the CFA Atrium with hors d'oeuvres available for purchase throughout the atrium at the event. In addition to the Country Fair, there will be performances representing different cultures at 7 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall. The community is invited to enjoy a variety of cultural dances and songs performed by Luther students. Both the Country Fair and the performance are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Dorian Band Festival Grand Concert Feb. 27

Featuring three festival bands and 625 high school musicians from 105 high schools, Luther's annual Dorian Band Festival Grand Concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in the CFL Main Hall. This event is open to the public with no charge for admission. The concert's festival bands include a Symphonic Band - an auditioned group of about 75 students, and the Sperati and Noble Bands - both consisting of 250 high school students.

National TRIO Day open house

Please join the staff and students of the TRIO Achievement Program for an open house Tuesday, Feb. 28. In celebration of National TRIO Day, the community is invited to come by TRIO's new space on the lower level of Preus Library between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn more about TRIO and what it does, plus enjoy tasty treats and register for door prizes.

Chris Norton: The Power to Stand

SAC Leadership presents Luther alumnus Chris Norton. Chris Norton is a keynote speaker and author who calls upon audiences to focus on response instead of situation, and to be defined by attitude rather than circumstance. Chris will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the CFL Main Hall, with a question and answer session to follow his talk. Tickets available for $5 at the at Ticket Office. 'The Nether'

The Luther College Theatre Department will put on four performances of Jennifer Haley's "The Nether" March 1-4 in Jewel Theatre in Luther's Center for the Arts. Performances are 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1; 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 2-3; and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4. In the world of "The Nether," the Internet has been replaced by a beautiful virtual world, but this digital paradise hides a dark secret.

The Nile Project musical collaboration and water cooperation

The Nile Project's Mina Girgis, producer and CEO, and other Nile project artists will lead a musical collaboration and water cooperation at 3 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the CRH. Girgis will discuss the environmental, economic and political factors that have contributed to the Nile water conflict. Members of the Nile project will demonstrate how their music acts as an innovative solution and vehicle to transform conflict to cooperation The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Center Stage Series: The Nile Project

The Nile Project, a cross-cultural collaboration that brings artists from 11 Nile countries together for a musical celebration of Nile identity, will perform at Luther at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in the CFL Main Hall. Part environmental awareness initiative, part musical collaboration, the 35-member collective comes together from 11 different East African countries to create a unified sound while maintaining each country's unique culture and musical tradition. Tickets for the Center Stage Series performance of The Nile Project, on sale in Luther's Ticket Office, may be purchased online at www.tickets.luther.edu or via the Luther Ticket Office.

Margot Fassler to speak on 'Cosmos and Creation' March 7

Author and sacred music historian, Margot Fassler, will deliver a lecture at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the CRH. The lecture, titled "Hildegard's Chants for Cosmos and Creation" will focus on the works of Hildegard of Bingen, a nun and scientist. The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Center Stage Series: Shaolin Warriors

Center Stage Series presents "Shaolin Warriors," a wildly popular theatrical experience representing over a thousand years of Chinese martial arts culture. The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in the Main Hall of the CFL. Tickets, on sale in Luther's Ticket Office, are $28 for adults, $26 for seniors age 65 and over and $15 for youth ages 4-18, and may be purchased online or via the Luther Ticket Office.

The Luther College Dance program has been commissioned to perform the pieces "Body of Water" and "The Invitation Game" for STEAM DAY at the Visitation School located in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, on March 25. "Body of Water" will be the centerpiece STEAM day performance featuring seven alumni and four current students from the dance and jazz music programs. The Invitation Game will be the centerpiece STEAM day interactive workshop featuring four alumni and nine current students from the dance and jazz music programs.

The Luther College Dance program and Office of the Dean will sponsor 14 dance students to present their creative and scholarly research at the American College Dance Association's North-Central Region's Moving Bodies conference at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, March 8-11. All students will be presenting their creative and scholarly research at the conference. Also presenting are faculty in dance Andrea Vazquez-Aguirre and Jane Hawley with music faculty, Jon Ailabouni and guest musician, J.J. Kaufman.
