Move out day parking restrictions
To help facilitate closing of the residence halls, parking access will be restricted on High Street from Koren to Center Street staring at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, until 9 p.m. Thursday, May 18. Faculty and staff parking along High Street will be converted to a loading zone during this time period to allow better access for those moving out of Brandt. In addition, faculty and staff are asked not to park in the small lot south of Ylvisaker and east of the CFL on Thursday, May 18, so students moving out of Ylvisaker may utilize this space.

Library summer hours
Preus Library will begin summer hours Friday, May 19. The library is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. It is closed Saturday-Sunday. The library will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday Monday, May 29, and for the Independence Day holiday Tuesday, July 4.
Summer hours reminder
Summer hours begin Monday, May 22. Luther staff have the option to work 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday with a 30 minute lunch break and 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Friday with a 30 minute lunch break. Note that each office must be staffed by one employee until 5 p.m. on Friday, breaks will not be scheduled at the end of the work day. The college will return to regular work hours Monday, Aug. 21.

Note to JP Morgan commercial cardholders
All JP Morgan commercial cardholders must send their May and June reporting cycle commercial card expense reports to OFS by the deadline. Expense reports are needed prior to the 2016-17 audit and OFS needs time to review them.
Strategic planning open forums
The Strategic Planning Committee will hold one more round of open forums this semester. All faculty, staff and students are invited and encouraged to attend to discuss ideas and initiatives that have emerged through the Strategic Planning Committee's information-gathering activities. This is an important opportunity to help the committee develop and shape goals and priorities for Luther's future.
Open forum sessions will be held 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. Friday, May 19, in the Mott Room in Dahl Centennial Union.
Move out mindfully: donate, recycle, divert
Move-out week is a fantastic time to make a difference. Encourage students to help Luther reduce move-out waste by donating food, books, school supplies, shoes, toiletries, linens, rugs and working electronics/lamps/
Volunteers needed
The Caf to Community program is seeking volunteers for Monday-Thursday shifts throughout the summer. Extra food is packaged from the cafeteria and donated to the First Lutheran food pantry. Volunteer shifts begin at 1 p.m. and end once food is gone, usually no more than an hour and a half. Email Sarah, <forssa03>, with questions.
Fiscal year end approaching
Outstanding travel expense reports, original invoices, supporting purchase orders and purchase permits or account adjustments should be sent to the Office for Financial Services by Friday, June 9, to be included in fiscal year 2016-17 budget. No faxed copies are permitted. Items for deposit must be sent to the Office for Financial Services by Friday, June 2. Thanks for helping OFS close out the year in a timely manner.
Faculty and staff ticket prices for Center Stage Series
In a trial run for 2017-18, Center Stage Series tickets for Luther faculty, staff and spouses will be $15. Tickets for faculty and staff dependents ages 4-18 will be $7.50. Seeking friendship families
The Luther Diversity Center seeks individuals and families in the Decorah community to help incoming international students adjust to life at Luther and in the United States. The goal of the program is to promote international understanding and develop an appreciation of how others live and view the world. Interested individuals and families can sign up on the Diversity Center website.
Shuttle Service now offering Chicago Midway International Airport
The 2017-18 shuttle schedule is now available online. This fall, the Chicago Midway Airport will be a new pick-up and drop-off location along with minor changes for continuing routes. As a reminder, all shuttle tickets must be purchased a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the initial departure time or there will be an additional fee.
Summer safety tip from the Risk Management and Safety Committee
The Friday before Memorial Day is "Don't Fry Day." The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention designated this day to encourage sun safety awareness. As a reminder, always wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses every day when working, playing or relaxing outdoors.
Steam shutdown
The annual steam shutdown is planned for the afternoon of May 23-28. A limited number of buildings will have hot water and some HVAC systems will be cooler than usual. Contact Facilities, <facilities>, with questions.

Roses for graduates and others
The Book Shop is selling fresh blue and white roses during Commencement Weekend. The price of each rose is $4 each and they can be ordered in the Book Shop or online. Flowers must be picked up or purchased in the Book Shop Friday-Sunday, May 19-21. Sorry, no deliveries. Supplies are limited so stop in to order soon.
Lawn fertilization and spot spraying May 26-27
In an effort to be more sustainable, Luther has reduced campus-wide spraying to an annual herbicide-spraying application in the fall. The college will instead spot spray in the spring in limited areas as dictated by need.
Luther will continue to fertilize the campus lawns to provide well-maintained, visually attractive grounds for Luther students, employees and visitors. Weather permitting, the procedure will occur May 26-27, outside of normal work hours.

Senior art majors exhibit May 12-21
As the culmination of their studies in the fine arts, Luther senior art majors' gallery exhibit of their collective works is on display through May 21 in the Kristen Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the CFA. A reception for the student artists will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in the Center for the Arts. Both the exhibit and the reception are open to the public with no charge for admission. Exhibiting artists in this year's show are seniors Makeda Barkley, Adam Bartucci, Jayna Felder, Claire Firary, Max Green, Spencer Hodge, Savannah Horn, Miranda Joslin, Blake Klein, Josh Miller, Nathan Moore and Shannon Taylor.
Symphony Orchestra and Nordic Choir showcase
The Luther College Symphony Orchestra and the Nordic Choir will present a spring showcase concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, in the Main Hall of the CFL. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Those unable to attend may view the concert live online at stream.luther.edu/music.
The Symphony Orchestra will perform a program featuring "Huapango" by José Pablo Moncayo, "Adagietto," from Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler and "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel. The Nordic Choir will present a program featuring pieces by Charles Woods, J.A.C. Redford, Daniel Elder and more.
Jazz Orchestra and Concert Band concert
The Luther College Concert Band and Jazz Orchestra will perform a spring showcase concert at1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on Luther's campus. Concert Band is directed by Joan deAlbuquerque and the Jazz Orchestra is directed by Tony Guzmán.;
Concert Band will perform works by John Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Bach, John Philip Sousa and more.Jazz Orchestra will perform pieces by Duke Ellington, Hank Levy Harry, M. Woods and other prominent composers.

Baccalaureate Vespers
A celebration and sending for the class of 2017 will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in the Main Hall of the CFL. The celebratory worship service includes hymns, choir anthems, prayers and blessing for graduates and their families. Rooted in the college's Lutheran Christian heritage and our confidence in God's care for all people of the earth, this ecumenical service includes prayer petitions that celebrate the diversity of religious traditions represented in the graduating class.
Commencement 2017
Luther College will celebrate Commencement at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 21, in Carlson Stadium when President Paula Carlson will confer the Bachelor of Arts degree on Luther's class of 2017. John A. Nunes, president of Concordia College, New York, will give the commencement address. Tickets are required to attend the ceremony. Guests with tickets should be seated by 9:45 a.m. Guests without tickets will be able to view the live stream of the ceremony in the CFL and Marty's. The ceremony will be streamed live at stream.luther.edu.

Administrative assistant: .75 FTE, six hour per day, benefit-eligible, administrative assistant in the Office for Financial Services. The administrative assistant provides customer service to parents, students, staff and other customers of Luther in person, by phone and mail. This person is responsible for maintaining confidential information and performing clerical duties as needed. High school diploma is required, degree in business from a community college preferred. Two years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Strengths program coordinator: .52 FTE, 10-month Strengths program coordinator to serve as the main contact for staff and students interested in taking the StrengthsFinder assessment. Coordinator will lead the effort to teach Strengths Education to students in Health 100, coordinate strengths education workshops and collaborate with the Career Center director and Assessment and Institutional Research to identify measures to assess the on-going efficacy of the program. Qualified candidates required to have bachelor's degree, preferably from a liberal arts college with master's in student personnel administration, leadership studies or higher education preferred.
Associate athletic trainer: .83 FTE, 10-month (August-May) associate athletic trainer to assist the head athletic trainer with responsibilities of managing the athletic training services with the understanding of current NCAA DIII and NATA policies and procedures. Position includes teaching nutrition class. Required qualifications include BOC certification, eligibility for Iowa Athletic Training Licensure, minimum of two years collegiate athletic training experience and master's degree in Athletic Training or related field. CRP/AED professional rescuer certification is preferred.
Administrative assistant: Luther seeks a .92 FTE, 11-month, administrative assistant to provide support to College Ministries. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of four years office experience as well as excellent organizational, problem solving and communication skills. A college degree, experience working in higher education or church office experience is preferred.

Marie Drews presented her paper "Passing and Domestic Defiance in Gertrude Dorsey Brown's Colored American Magazine Stories" at the 31st annual MELUS conference Saturday, April 29. The MELUS Conference is put on by the Society for the Study of the Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States.
Odette Bruneau's review of the book, "Barriers and Belonging: Personal Narratives of Disability," was published in the April 5 edition of Teachers College Press.
As part of his time as Franklin Fellow at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., Todd Green traveled to Europe to speak on behalf of the State Department. Green addressed audiences at the U.S. Consulate in Hamburg, the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the U.S. Embassy in Brussels.
On May 25, Pedro dos Santos will present a paper titled "Who Decides Who is a Symbol? Elite and Media Contestation and the Symbolic Representation of Rousseff" in the Resisting Women's Political Leadership: Theories, Data, Solutions conference. The conference, held in the Eagleton Institute at Rutgers University, will be live streamed.
