Interim Dean for Institutional Equity and Inclusion: Candidate open forums
The Luther community is invited to attend a conversation with the second candidate for the interim Dean for Institutional Equity and Inclusion position from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, in Mott. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback for the search advisory committee. Candidate resumes may be viewed in KATIE. Chair massages Monday in Borlaug
Wellness is hosting a massage therapist in Nansen Monday, June 19, for $1/minute chair massages (cash, check or card at appointment) to help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow/circulation, increase energy-improving productivity, decrease anxiety and enhance immune system function. Chair massage is done on a chair designed for massaging the back, neck, shoulders, arms and hands. Massages are done fully clothed. Sign up here; email <wellness> with questions.
Staffing changes in the President's Office
The President's Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Sally Ming as the new executive assistant to the president. Sally served in a temporary role in the President's Office in fall 2015. She started her new position June 12. Sally can be reached at <mingsa01> or 387-1527. Sally replaces Suzanne Lyndon, who is relocating to Massachusetts this summer. Suzanne's last day at Luther will be Friday, June 16.
Temporary file cleanup for Windows workstations
Starting Wednesday, June 7, ITS will begin clearing temporary directories, browser caches and other unused files on Windows faculty/staff workstations upon logoff/shutdown. This will be a continuous process and the first logoff/shutdown attempt from on campus may take up to 15 minutes to complete, so please plan accordingly. After that, the process should go unnoticed. Mobile website enhancements
External mobile traffic to luther.edu has increased 283 percent the last two years. We also know that 70 percent of college-bound high school students have looked at a college website on a mobile device. Hence, enhancing the mobile experience is always a top priority. Check out these new features on your smart phone: swipeable features, improved feature presentation, green "Take the Next Step" bar for call-to-action buttons and placement of social icons on the page. Seeking friendship families for new international students
The Luther Diversity Center seeks individuals and families in the Decorah community to help incoming international students adjust to life at Luther and in the United States. The goal of the program is to promote international understanding and develop an appreciation of how others live and view the world. Interested individuals and families can sign up on the Diversity Center website.

Luther to install blue AstroTurf in Carlson Stadium
Carlson Stadium on the Luther campus will get a major upgrade this summer with the installation of a top-of-the-line synthetic turf and pad system by AstroTurf. Legacy Field, as it will be named within Carlson Stadium, will have the distinction of being the only blue turf field among NCAA Division III colleges and universities in the United States.
Center Stage Series subscription packages on sale
Luther College Center Stage Series is celebrating 40 years of timeless and one-of-a-kind experiences at the CFL with nine unforgettable CSS performances, two school matinee performances and the college's continuing commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Tickets for CSS events may be purchased as a subscription package through Friday, Aug. 25. Subscriptions can be purchased through Ticket Office or by downloading a subscription form online. CSS patrons with special requirements and those who would like assistance ordering may contact the Ticket Office, 387-1357 or <tickets>.

Preview Day
Luther College will host a Preview Day on Friday, June 16. Preview Days are designed to provide prospective students with an introduction to Luther's learning environment. This summer event includes a campus tour, an academic department visit, financial aid and current student question and answer sessions, complimentary lunch in the cafeteria, and opportunities to connect with athletic coaches. Soccer instructional camp
The Luther College Soccer Camp offers Iowa and the Midwest top-quality soccer instruction. The camp, happening July 17-20, enables aspiring players to learn the basic techniques and tactics of the game in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and support, while advanced players receive collegiate/pro-level training. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt. This camp is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14. More information can be found online.
Norse soccer mini camp
The camp offers tremendous instruction from qualified staff for the boys and girls ages 4-7. The purpose of the camp is to introduce mini-campers to soccer by teaching fundamental skills associated with the game, alongside simple concepts and ideas. Thus, a child's first steps in the game become a perfect foundation to further development. More information on the camp can be found online.

Sympathy
Sympathy to Doreen Bidne and Debbie Aske on the death of their mother, Irene Gulrud, who passed away May 26. Funeral services were held May 31 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church.
Luther College's Geoffrey Dyck, junior, and Anna Phearman, sophomore, have received summer internships from the Office of the Secretary of the United States Senate. The pair will have the opportunity to work alongside Secretary of the Senate Julie E. Adams, Luther class of 1999.
Luther's Preus Library received the Outstanding Library and Archives Award as part of the 2017 National History Day state contest, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The award, also known as the "Kids Count" award, honors Preus Library with contributing the most to the work of young historians in the National History Day contest. Preus Library was nominated by students at St. Benedict School and Decorah Middle School to receive the award.
Anita Carrasco received a prestigious fellowship from Rachel Carlson Center for Environment and Society in Munich, Germany, for writing the book "The Embrace of the Serpent: A Chronicle of Atacameño Life in the Face of Mining" during her sabbatical year of 2018-19. These fellowships are very competitive and open to scholars from all over the world, though only about 12 percent of applicants are successful. Research at the RCC is concerned with questions of the interrelationship between environmental and social changes, and in particular the reasons—the social, political, cultural and environmental factors—behind these transformations.
Brooke Joyce recently premiered a new solo piano work, "Saturnian Moons," at the annual conference of the Iowa Music Teachers Association in Ames, Iowa. Composed for intermediate pianists, the music is available for free for teachers who wish to use it in their studios.
