Tuesday newsletter date change

Due to the upcoming holiday on Tuesday, July 4, next week's edition of the Tuesday will instead be sent out on Monday, July 3. Subsequently, the 3 p.m. deadline for submissions is all the more important. Any items submitted after 3 p.m. Friday will not be considered.

Upper campus closed to motorized vehicles July 28

The Luther community will be offering a big blue welcome to all RAGBRAI riders passing through Decorah Friday, July 28—College Spirit Day! Much of our welcome will take place along the route on College Drive, but riders will also be encouraged to take the "Luther Loop" through campus. For the safety of all riders involved, upper campus will be closed to motorized traffic from 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Walking or biking to work that day is encouraged, though parking and access to campus will continue to be available in the Regents and Farwell lots. Transition to new academic file server June 28-29

In preparation for the transition to a new file server, all faculty are asked to shut down their computers at the end of the day on Wednesday, June 28. The academic file server will be changed to read-only at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 28. The transition will begin at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 and will be completed by 8 a.m. Thursday, June 29. The Decorah Historic Preservation Commission, which includes two emeriti faculty, Mark Z. Muggli and Diane Scholl, and current staff member Hayley Jackson, is seeking information about Charles Altfillisch's architectural and engineering projects. Admissions report available via KATIE

The monthly admissions report is now available in KATIE. Luther faculty and staff can access the report via KATIE approximately one week after the end of each month. To view the report, search for "enrollment data" in the Search Courses box in the upper-right corner of any KATIE page. If prompted to enroll, accept.

Center Stage Series subscription packages on sale

Luther College Center Stage Series is celebrating 40 years of timeless and one-of-a-kind experiences at the CFL with nine unforgettable CSS performances, two school matinee performances and the college's continuing commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Tickets for CSS events may be purchased as a subscription package through Friday, Aug. 25. Subscriptions can be purchased through the Ticket Office or by downloading a subscription form online. Luther faculty and staff may purchase their tickets at the special price of $15 for adults and $7.50 for children. CSS patrons with special requirements and those who would like assistance ordering may contact the Ticket Office, 387-1357 or <tickets>.

Full-time regional admissions counselor or assistant director of admissions: This position will be responsible for recruitment of students from the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area. This position will physically be located in the greater Minneapolis area, with the candidate working from a home office. Based on the level of experience for the successful candidate, the title will be either Regional Admissions Counselor or Assistant Director. A bachelor's degree is required, and applicants must have a valid driver's license. As an Admissions Counselor, one year of relevant post graduate experience is recommended. To be considered for the Assistant Director level, the successful candidate should have a minimum of four years of experience.

Programmer Analyst: Seeking a motivated, detail-oriented programmer analyst to develop software solutions and provide support and security for information systems serving students, faculty, staff and alumni. The analyst will join the team of software developers at Luther College in Decorah. Knowledge of procedural computer languages and experience using SQL databases is required. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and analytical skills. Technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, web APIs, security and network interfaces is desired. The campus workplace is a mix of Windows, Linux, and Mac.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS

Anita Carrasco received a prestigious fellowship from Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in Munich, Germany, to write the book "The Embrace of the Serpent: A Chronicle of Atacameño Life in the Face of Mining" during her sabbatical year of 2018-19. These fellowships are very competitive and open to scholars from all over the world, though only about 12 percent of applicants are successful. Research at the RCC is concerned with questions of the interrelationship between environmental and social changes, and in particular the reasons—the social, political, cultural and environmental factors—behind these transformations.

J.R. Christianson's chapter on "The Infrastructure of the Royal Hunt: King Frederik II of Denmark, 1559-1588," is the lead chapter in "Le cacce reali nell’Europa dei principi," edited by Andrea Merlotti, Florence 2017.

Lefse demonstrators needed: In addition to selling warm lefse at Nordic Fest, our booth also has a demonstrator in the front window for people to "ooh" and "aah" over.
