COLLEGE OPERATIONS

Iowa Private College Week

Luther College will participate in Iowa Private College Week, a week-long celebration encouraging prospective students to explore Iowa's 25 private colleges and universities. Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to come to Luther's campus and visit with professors, meet coaches, chat with current students and learn about academic and social opportunities Aug. 1-5. Faculty are invited to come interact with prospective students and their families at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Valders Concourse. Contact Kristin Padilla, 419-6994, if interested in helping out.

PaperCut replaces GoPrint

Starting this week, ITS will transition residence hall, lab and classroom printers to use PaperCut rather than GoPrint. All student printing will route through PaperCut by the start of fall semester 2016. For details, visit www2.luther.edu/its/papercut. Faculty and staff printers will transition to PaperCut during the fall.

Colleague and my.luther unavailable Aug. 5-8

ITS will move Colleague from a Unidata database to a Microsoft SQL Server database Aug. 5-8. Colleague and my.luther will be unavailable starting at noon Aug. 5. Both services are expected to be available again Aug. 8. Visit the ITS blog for details and please plan ahead.

Library online catalog upgrade

The Library upgraded its online catalog and search tool, Worldcat, on Monday, Aug. 1. The upgraded version offers several advantages, including more intuitive and robust search options, better mobile functionality and an updated interface. This version will search all the same resources: books, articles, videos, recordings and more. Please report any issues, concerns, suggestions and compliments to Freeda Brook <fbrook> or any of the library staff.

To the family of Lawrence Williams, professor emeritus of Africana studies and history, who passed away Sunday, July 31, in Louisville, Kentucky. Mike and Sue Blair recently released a CD of original music, "Ever Singing." Many of the songs on the CD were written by during Sue's journey through cancer treatment and recovery. An article about Mike and Sue and their music, written by Nicole Brekke Sisk '94, Senior Communications Specialist, was featured in Mayo Clinic's online newsletter, In the Loop. "Ever Singing" is available at the Luther Book Shop and on Spotify, iTunes and Mike and Sue's website: eversinging.com.

Philip Freeman's translation of Cicero's "How to Win an Election" has been chosen as the first-year reading for the entering classes at both Texas Christian University and Loyola University in Maryland.

Molly McNicoll presented "Integrating Undergraduate Research and Natural Areas Management" at the North American Congress for Conservation Biology in Madison, Wisconsin.
