SAC Cinema and International Student and Allies Association presents a showing of "Crossing Borders" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Valders 206. A discussion will follow the documentary. This event is part of the International Education Week celebration and is open to the public with no charge for admission. "Crossing Borders" is a documentary that follows four Moroccan and four American university students as they travel together through Morocco, and confront the complex implications of the "clash of civilizations" between Islam and the West.

'Petra, Jordan, and Bedouins' Luther Woman's Club

Luther College Woman's Club meets at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Shirley Baker Commons. Jane Kemp, Luther professor emerita of Library and Information Studies and Marilyn Anderson, retired NICC communications instructor will present "Petra, Jordan, and Bedouins" a presentation about the rediscovered sandstone city of Petra, Jordan, and the Bedouins - the nomadic people who live there.

'Brazil's Political Turmoil: Dilma Rousseff's Impeachment'

The community is invited to attend a lecture by Ana Lucia Henrique, researcher at the Center for Information in the Brazilian Congress. Henrique will provide an overview of the current Brazilian political landscape at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Preus Library Hovde Lounge. She will provide a background on the impeachment process of ex-president Dilma Rousseff and discuss the aftermath of the impeachment.

'Fire and Farmworkers: Changes in Labor and Environmental Practices in Brazilian Sugarcane Fields'

Ian Carrillo, sociology Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will discuss the historical changes in labors laws in Brazil's sugarcane industry and how such changes influence environmental practices. The community is invited to the lecture, which will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Hovde Lounge. This event is sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Communities.

Black Lives Matter: the Luther experience

With all the recent and ongoing social and racial issues confronting America, this panel will seek to raise awareness and continue the conversation regarding the meaning of "Black Lives Matter." The panel will touch on some of the issues people of color face nationwide as well as in Decorah and at Luther. The panel discussion will seek to address the meaning of the phrase, "Black Lives Matter" and it's relationship to the phrase "All Lives Matter." The panel, comprised of Luther students and faculty members, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Olin 102.

Fatimetu Emhamed and the United Nations

Luther College senior Fatimetu Jatri Emhamed testified before the Special Political and Decolonization Committee of the United Nations in New York on Oct. 6. She asked the UN to intensify its peacekeeping efforts in her home country of Western Sahara, with the hope that Western Sahara might one day achieve self-determination. At 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in Main 111, Emhamed will give a presentation, explaining the history of her country's struggles and relating her experience at the UN. This presentation is part of International Education Week, and is sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement. Pizza will be served.

Luther College Philharmonia concert

Luther College's Philharmonia will perform in concert at7:30 p.m.Thursday, Nov. 17, in the CFL Main Hall. This event, open to the public with no charge for admission, will be streamed live at stream.luther.edu/music. The program features the following works: the first movement of Symphony No. 1 by Beethoven, "Five Courtly Dances from Gloriana" by Benjamin Britten and "A Shakespeare Suite: Film from Richard III" by William Walton.
