Sign up today for 2018 required wellness screenings

During 2018, employees and spouses covered by the Luther College Health Care Plan have additional wellness benefits and requirements. Get started early to avoid an additional insurance premium by visiting the informational website and learning how to sign up for the first on-campus blood screening, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 16. Please contact the Wellness Program, <wellness>, with any questions.

TIAA counseling sessions

TIAA announces individual counseling sessions: 1:30-4:15 p.m., Monday, Jan. 22; 8:30 a.m.- 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23; and 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23. Space is limited. Register online or by calling (800) 732-8353 between 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday. Sessions will be held Main 30.

Spring staff meetings

Mark your calendars! The following are the dates for the spring semester staff meetings, all on Wednesdays and Thursday: Feb. 14 and 15; March 14 and 15; April 18 and 19. Wednesday meetings are at 2 p.m. and Thursday meetings are at 9 a.m.  

Keep your wellness resolutions alive, join Decorah Masters Swim Team.

If you can swim non-stop for at least one length of the pool and want to join a fun group of Luther faculty, staff, students and community members, consider Decorah Masters Swimming. Practices are Tuesday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Friday lunchtime and Sunday afternoon. Dues are $36 a month, with an attendance credit for Luther swimmers. Dining Dollars deal

Did you know Luther faculty and staff can put dining dollars on their account? Change to stipend request process

Human Resources must now receive requests to pay individuals, often called "stipends" or "honorariums," by the first day of the month for monthly payrolls and by the first day of the pay period for biweekly payrolls. This change is being made to allow Human Resources time to approve or deny the request before any work is performed and to allow Payroll sufficient time to process the request. Dorian Vocal Festival on campus this weekend

The Dorian Vocal Festival will take place Saturday-Monday, Jan. 13-15. Nearly 1,100 students from 380 schools will be on-campus working with our music faculty. Monday, they will be eating in the cafeteria from 12:30-1:30 p.m. We appreciate your patience as there will be a lot of extra traffic during this time and thank you for welcoming these students to campus. KATIE January 2018 changes

Wellness chair massage spots open for Monday

Wellness is hosting a massage therapist on campus for $1/minute chair massages, paid by cash, check or card at appointment, from 1-5 p.m. every other Monday in Bunch or Borlaug through May. Chair massages can help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow/circulation, increase energy-improving productivity, decrease anxiety and enhance immune system function. 'Create Community' workshop for first-years

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage first-year students to attend a day-and-a-half community building workshop, Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 20-21, at Baker Commons. Participants will tell stories, figure out what they want from their Luther experience and how to make it happen. Modeled on the UWC (SEA) Initiative for Peace and led by first-year student Kim Chham and the Luther College Peace Scholars, sponsored by the CEPE. Limited space. Sign up is at cepe.luther.edu.

'Christmas at Luther' stream now available

Luther is offering a streamed version of the 2017 performance of "Christmas at Luther: The Tree of Life My Soul Hath Seen" online through January. The college's annual musical celebration is available at christmasatluther.com/stream; there is no charge to view or download the performance. 

Sisk named volleyball coach

Renae Hartl has named Brittany Sisk the college's new head volleyball coach. Sisk joins the Norse with a wealth of experience as a head coach and assistant coach at both the NCAA III and NCAA II levels. She will begin her new duties immediately. Sisk becomes the sixth head coach in Luther's 39-year history of varsity volleyball. She succeeds Danielle Lynch, who served as head volleyball coach for seven years and resigned in November.

Hafner resigns, Padilla named head football coach

Renae Hartl has announced that Aaron Hafner, head football coach, has resigned. "It was a tough decision to leave Luther College, but my family and I have an opportunity to teach and coach in the Kansas City, Kansas, area and continue our journey closer to our immediate family," stated Hafner.

Caleb Padilla, who has been the defensive coordinator for the Norse football program the past three years, has been promoted to head football coach. "I look forward to building on the football program created under the leadership of coach Hafner," commented Padilla. During his three years at Luther, the defensive unit has improved each year. In 2017, the Norse recorded their highest Iowa Conference finish in scoring defense in nine years. 

Nottingham and Malta directors named

The Dean's Office and the Center for Global Learning are pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Narveson as the 2019-20 Nottingham Program Director and the appointment of Brooke Joyce as the 2019 Malta Program Director. We are grateful to both individuals for providing leadership to these two important and longstanding off-campus programs.
