Offices closed Jan. 19
The offices of Financial Services, Financial Aid, Registrar and Human Resources will be closed from 8:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, for a staff workshop.
HR notice: Save the date

January staff meetings
Please attend one of the monthly staff meetings for January: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, or 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, both in Peace Dining Room. Items on the agenda include study abroad updates and current happenings by Jon Lund, updates from the Emergency Response Team by Corey Landstrom and on Luther's contracts and bidding policy from Andrew Bailey.
Know a potentially good RA?
Residence Life is beginning the Resident Assistant selection process for 2018-2019 and would appreciate names of caring and responsible students who are engaged in the Luther community. Spring staff meetings
Mark your calendars. The following are the dates for the spring semester staff meetings, all on Wednesdays and Thursday: Feb. 14 and 15; March 14 and 15; April 18 and 19. Wednesday meetings are at 2 p.m. and Thursday meetings are at 9 a.m.

Keep your wellness resolutions alive, join Decorah Masters Swim Team.
If you can swim non-stop for at least one length of the pool and want to join a fun group of Luther faculty, staff, students and community members, consider Decorah Masters Swimming. Practices are Tuesday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Friday lunchtime and Sunday afternoon. Dues are $36 a month, with an attendance credit for Luther swimmers. Change to stipend request process
Human Resources must now receive requests to pay individuals, often called "stipends" or "honorariums," by the first day of the month for monthly payrolls and by the first day of the pay period for biweekly payrolls. This change is being made to allow Human Resources time to approve or deny the request before any work is performed and to allow Payroll sufficient time to process the request. Wellness chair massage on Mondays
Wellness is hosting a massage therapist on campus for $1/minute chair massages, paid by cash, check or card at appointment, from 1-5 p.m. every other Monday in Bunch or Borlaug through May. Chair massages can help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow/circulation, increase energy-improving productivity, decrease anxiety and enhance immune system function. 'Create Community' workshop for first-years
Faculty and staff are asked to encourage first-year students to attend a day-and-a-half community building workshop, Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 20-21, at Baker Commons. Participants will tell stories, figure out what they want from their Luther experience and how to make it happen. Modeled on the United World Colleges (SEA) Initiative for Peace and led by first-year student Kim Chham and the Luther College Peace Scholars, sponsored by the CEPE. Limited space. 'Laton Alton Huffman, Frontier Photographer'
Captured images of the American West during the 19th and 20th centuries will be on display through Jan. 31 in Preus Library. The show, titled "Laton Alton Huffman, Frontier Photographer," features vintage photographs taken by Laton Alton Huffman. The gallery exhibit is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Martin-Schramms to speak at Woman's Club meeting
Luther faculty and staff members Jim and Karen Martin-Schramm will present "Encountering Britain: Luther's Nottingham Program" at the January meeting of the Luther College Woman's Club, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Peace Dining Room. CEPE TV dinner
Join Brooke Joyce to watch and discuss an episode of "WKRP in Cincinnati," a CBS sitcom that ran from 1978-1982, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Olin 214. In the episode "Real Families," which aired following the election of Ronald Reagan, a TV crew films a family during a "typical" midwestern Sunday, foreshadowing the genre of reality TV, with all its ethical and aesthetic implications. Third and fourth episodes of 'The National Parks' this week
"The Empire of Grandeur" and "Going Home," episodes three and four of the six-part Ken Burns' documentary "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in Valders 362. Each episode lasts approximately two hours.
Mid-Winter Community Day
Luther College, in partnership with Decorah Bank & Trust, invites all area families and friends to enjoy an afternoon of food, fellowship and fun at the 2018 Mid-Winter Community Day beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in the Regents Center. Registration can be completed online or by calling the Alumni Office, 387-1164 or (800) 225-8664. The community day pizza party is $2 for adults, no charge for children 18 and under. There is no admission charge to the Luther basketball games that day.
Student recital
Jacob Bunge '18, will perform a vocal recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21. Student recitals are held in the Noble Recital Hall and are followed by a reception. Recitals and receptions are open to the public with no charge for admission
First Pitch Banquet Jan. 27
Kick off the Luther baseball season at the fourth annual First Pitch Banquet at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27. The event includes silent auction, dinner, season outlook from Coach Bryan Nikkel and keynote speaker Mike Grimm '93, voice of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. To the friends and family of Marcia Bullerman, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16. She recently retired after a 30-year career at Luther College, most recently in the President's office. Position openings
Custodial floater: Immediate opening for a full-time floater. The floater custodian fills in for both academic and administrative buildings.
Full-time admissions counselor or assistant director of admissions: Primary responsibilities include coordinating the recruitment of students from a specific geographical region, visiting targeted high schools and attending select college fair programs. Extensive travel is required, and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when appropriate. Based on the level of experience of the successful candidate, the title will be either admissions counselor or assistant director. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, some computer knowledge and the ability to make public presentations. Previous experience in admissions or a related field is preferred, and an appreciation for residential, liberal arts colleges would be helpful. A bachelor's degree is required, and applicants must have a valid driver's license. Experience in sales, marketing, communication and education is highly desirable.
