Financial Fitness Challenge

Over time, most of us have created a number of daily habits that impact our finances. Even the smallest choices have potential consequences on our ability to reach our life and financial goals. Whether it's an impulsive decision to buy a new car instead of a used car or brown bagging lunch instead of going out, habits can either undermine our savings resolutions or support them. Did you know that if you spend $20 a week eating out at lunch, you have spent $80 a month or $1,000 a year. In five years you have spent $5,000! What else could you spend that money on? Learn more about this and other topics in the Financial Fitness Challenge online. Check for an email from "Financial Fitness Group" with the subject, "ABCs of the Iowa Financial Fitness CHALLENGE at Luther College." This is a free program for employees, spouses and adult children.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

And finally...

On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building opened in New York City. At 102 stories, it was the world's tallest building for 41 years. Here are a few interesting ESB facts:

  • The Empire State Building Run-Up is an annual race up the 1,576 stairs to the 86 floor.
  • Couples can sometimes see sparks when they kiss due to the static electricity at the top of the building.
  • The Empire State Building took one year and 45 days to build, equivalent to more than seven million working hours.
