OFS closes out end of year
The college's fiscal year ended May 31. The Office for Financial Services reminds all faculty and staff that supplies, materials, etc., must have been received by May 31 to be expensed to a FY 17-18 budget. Additionally, all outstanding travel expense reports, credit card reports, original invoices–no faxed copies, supporting purchase orders/purchase permits or account adjustments should be sent to OFS by Friday, June 8, to be included in FY 17-18 budget. Items for deposit that were in Luther's possession by May 31 should be brought to OFS immediately. Call OFS, 387-1015, with any questions.
Luther receives Vital Worship Grant
The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is awarding Luther a $9,135 grant through its Vital Worship Grants Program, funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. The grant is supporting the development of a lectionary for undergraduate academic communities. The lectionary—a series of biblical lessons for reading in a worship service— will integrate the academic calendar, liturgical calendar and biblical texts that contribute to the spiritual formation of young adults and address core questions in their faith journeys.
June is National Safety Month
The National Safety Council has announced June is National Safety Month. This year's campaign focus is "No One Gets Hurt." Spring is tornado season so prepare for the unexpected. Pay attention to weather alerts and weather apps. Do you know where to seek shelter? Be aware of your surroundings. If you are outdoors, seek shelter. If you are indoors, seek the lowest level of the building away from glass doors or windows. For more information refer to the Luther College Emergency Procedures booklet.

Fleet information
As a reminder, please return the fleet packets at the same time as the vehicles. On many occasions, there are multiple reservations per day on each car. Timely return of packets and a full tank of gas allow for promptness with the next reservation.
Summer reading group: Human control of nature
Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to join CEPE faculty research professor Beth Lynch for a summer reading group. The group will discuss Charles Mann's article, "Can Planet Earth Feed 10 Billion People?" at 3 p.m. Friday, June 15, in Hovde. They will discuss Michael Specter's article, "Rewriting the Code of Life," which focuses on genetic engineering as a way to eliminate disease, Friday, July 13. Refreshments provided. Sign up here.

Adult Dorian Choral Retreat 'Livssang'
The Dorian Choral Retreat will be hosted at Luther from June 29 through July 1 with the culminating event, "Livssang," at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, in the CFL Main Hall. A presentation of all the choral music rehearsed throughout the weekend, "Livssang" provides a musical finish to the retreat. Soccer instructional camp July 16-19
Luther's soccer camp offers Iowa and the Midwest top-quality soccer instruction to boys and girls ages 8-14. The camp enables aspiring players to learn the basic techniques and tactics of the game in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and support, while advanced players receive collegiate/pro-level training. Soccer mini camp is July 16-19
Norse soccer mini-camp, open to anyone ages 4-7, is Monday-Thursday, July 16-19. The purpose of the camp is to introduce mini-campers to soccer by doing it the right way. Fundamental skills associated with the game are taught alongside simple concepts and ideas. Thus, a child's first steps in the game become a perfect foundation to further development. Memorial
The memorial service for Roger W. Anderson, class of '48, Luther faculty member from 1958-89, and long-time Decorah resident, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with visitation starting at noon. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Luther College for the "Dr. Roger W. and Amme E. Anderson Endowed Scholarship" for teacher education and music students.
Sympathy
To Peggy Landsom and family on the death of her mother-in-law, Emma Bernice Landsom, of Spring Grove, Minnesota, who passed away May 31. Funeral services are at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove Tuesday, June 5.
Position open
Full-time security officer: To provide for the safety and security of people and property on the Luther campus. Officers perform multiple tasks, including random patrol of building and grounds, on foot and by vehicle, to deter and detect criminal activity and other conduct issues with an emphasis on prevention. Primary hours will be overnight shift, either 9:30 p.m.-7:30 a.m. or 11:30 p.m.-7:30 a.m., or a combination of both. The 24-hour nature of the security operation may require staff to work a variety of hours. Scheduled hours will include weekends and holidays. A high school diploma or GED is required; some college is preferred.

Anita Carrasco and Rachel Storlie were presented the H. George Anderson and Jutta F. Anderson endowment. The Anderson endowment was established to provide support for junior faculty in their summer development projects. It facilitates research, scholarship and creative and artistic work in a variety of disciplines, contributing to the strong academic integrity of the liberal arts at Luther.
Xiao Hu and Du Huang received the Tomson Family Faculty Fellowship award. Established through the development office, the fellowship was established to honor great teaching in the liberal arts, provide tenured faculty with opportunity to study and rethink the ways they encourage Luther's students to learn. Hu and Huang, who perform together as Unison Piano Duo, have been invited to perform in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in December by the concert organization, "Musica no Museu."
Jacob Secor, Marcia Gullickson and Adam Forsyth attended the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Technology Workshop at Central College May 23-24. Secor gave a presentation on his work "Implementing an Information Security Program through Data Loss Prevention/Data Discovery."

Wanted: Kristy Gould and Jacob Noble '18, are conducting dog cognition research this summer. We will be looking at how dogs learn a task and interact with humans. We are looking for people willing to bring their dog(s) to campus to participate in this study. It will only take up to an hour for each dog and the date and time can be flexible based on your schedule. The project will run from June 5-15 and July 5-25.
