Toner phone scam

Several offices have recently received a phone call from an unidentified source asking for specific details about the copier or printer in the office. These callers demand information regarding the brand and model number of the machines in the office and attempts to send toner with an invoice that is three or four times the regular retail price. The majority of copiers/printers on campus are under a contract with Ricoh to supply the toner, parts and service. Ricoh will not call offices for ordering toner and supplies. It is not recommend to offer them any of information; giving them any information will only help fuel the next caller's tactics. It is best to request they not call again and disconnect the call. For any questions, contact the Document Center, telephone 387-1631.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

And finally...

Saturday, Sept. 2, is recognized as international bacon day. Celebrate the occasion by trying out a new bacon-inspired recipe.

Bacon ginger snap cookies

Ingredients

* 1/2 cup rendered bacon fat
* 1/4 cup shortening
* 1 cup granulated sugar
* 1/4 cup corn syrup
* 1 egg
* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 tsp salt
* 2 tsp baking soda
* 2 tsp ground ginger (or more to your taste)
* 1/2 tsp ground cloves
* 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Cream the fat and the sugar in a mixer, then add the egg. Once thoroughly mixed, slowly add the remainder of the ingredients to the mixture. Continue to mix until a dough forms. You can refrigerate the dough for an hour or so to make the dough easier to handle. Form and place 1-inch dough balls onto a cookie sheet sprayed with a non-stick spray. Leave two inches between each cookie as they will spread out as they cook. Use the tines of a fork to slightly flatten the dough balls on the cookie sheet. Bake for 6-8 minutes. Remove from the cookie sheet and cool on a rack.
