HLC accreditation evaluation–opportunity to comment
Luther College is seeking comments from the public about the college in preparation for its periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency. Luther College will have its next reaffirmation visit March 11, 2019, with a team representing the Higher Learning Commission. Luther College has been accredited by HLC since 1915. The team will review the institution's ongoing ability to meet HLC's Criteria for Accreditation.
The public is invited to submit comments that address substantive matters related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs. Comments may be submitted to the following address:

Mental health first aid training for faculty
Faculty are invited to receive mental health first aid training 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, with an hour lunch on their own, in Olin 112. Manuals will be provided by the Counseling Service. LyndaCampus purchased
Luther has purchased a three-year subscription of the campus-wide Lynda.com product called LyndaCampus. All faculty, staff and students should visit lynda.luther.edu and sign in with their Norse Key username and password to access this service. As they say on their website, "Learn a new skill online, on your time. There are 6,401 courses in business, technology and creative skills taught by industry experts." Squirrel week savings
It is National Squirrel Week Saturday-Saturday, Jan 12-19, in the Book Shop, so Martin is offering 25-percent off all clearance items. Get nutty with the Book Shop and start gathering clearance items.
First class stamp price increase
The cost of a stamp will increase from 50 cents to 55 cents Sunday, Jan. 27. This is a good time to buy ahead since the Book Shop carries Forever Stamps. Stamps can be purchased for 50 cents each and used anytime, even after a price increase. For large departmental purchases, please email <bookshopweb> with your order before Wednesday, January 23.

Lactation room
For those in need of a lactation room, there is a lactation room located in a private space in Valders 247E. It offers a window, table, comfortable chair and electrical outlets. The lactation room is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. If the room is locked, please contact Tracy Elsbernd at the front desk of the Nursing Department, Valders 243. Free Friday morning open gyms
Wellness has partnered with UERPC and NE Iowa Food & Fitness to offer free Friday morning open gyms this winter. Parents and children age newborn to five years can join Wellness 10:30-11:30 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22, for some open gym fun inside the Regents Center East Gym. Center for Sustainable Communities needs volunteers
The goal of Luther’s Cafeteria to Community Program ensures that good food makes it to the plates of those who need it. Through this program, student coordinators work with Dining Services staff to package food into quart-sized containers that are labeled and delivered to the Northeast Iowa Food Pantry. Over 50,000 pounds of food has been donated since 2013. Sign up to volunteer on a Sunday or Wednesday evening. Contact Toby, <cainto01>, with questions.

Roger Pulliam to give MLK Lecture Jan. 21
With the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968, students across the country staged sit-ins and challenged discriminatory practices in an attempt to create more minority representation on college campuses. Roger Pulliam, who witnessed the formation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Scholars Academy at Western Michigan University, will give the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Lecture. Pulliam's lecture, "A 50-year retrospective on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s impact on African American students' presence in higher education," is 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in Valders Room 206.

Part-time temporary career coach: For 20 hours per week through the end of current semester. This position provides counseling to assist individuals in identifying potential majors and careers; explores career fields and market conditions; develops strategies to identify internship and career employment opportunities; masters specific aspects of the job search process; and provides support to students who are planning to apply to graduate and professional schools. A master's degree or equivalent education/experience is preferred as well as two years of experience providing career coaching and/or counseling. Proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Office and experience using career assessment and job search tools is required
Full-time assistant director of safety and security: The assistant director is responsible for providing direction and assistance to department personnel during emergency and routine calls for service. Candidates should have an associate-level degree in criminal justice or related field, with a bachelor's degree preferred; minimum of three years of security or law enforcement experience preferably in a college setting; valid driver's license with clean driving record; clear criminal history; and extensive public contact and/or customer service experience. Additional years of experience and related training may be substituted for the associate degree. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for years of experience.
Full-time housing coordinator: The housing coordinator serves as the office manager for the Residence Life office and works cooperatively with the director of Residence Life. The coordinator interacts extensively with a wide range of constituencies. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills; three to five years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of people. Previous experience in a detailed-oriented, complex and highly public work environment is preferred. Experience using Word and Excel programs is required.
