Emeriti and promotions
Congratulations to these faculty members granted emerita status at the May Board of Regents meeting: Marian Kaehler, Rosalind Moeller and Jeannette Pillsbury.

Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching
Luther College is pleased to announce the establishment of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, which will officially launch in fall of 2019. The mission of CELT is to promote student success by supporting faculty and staff in the reflective practice of innovative and inclusive pedagogy, and by providing a space for interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development grounded in the latest research on learning and teaching. CELT's inaugural director is Kate Elliott, associate professor of art history, and it will be located in Valders 240. This space, which is currently a computer lab, will be renovated over the summer and a smaller computer lab will be created in Valders 244.

Summer Employment
HR is now taking applications from 16 and 17 year old dependents of staff and faculty to work for grounds this summer. Please have students complete the 2019 Student Summer Application and return to the HR office as soon as possible.
Fiscal year end approaching
Outstanding travel expense reports, original invoices, supporting purchase orders and purchase permits or account adjustments should be sent to the Office for Financial Services by Friday, June 14, to be included in FY 2018-19 budget. No faxed copies. Items for deposit must be sent to the Office for Financial Services by Friday, June 7. Thanks for helping OFS close out the year in a timely manner.
Document Center and Mail Center change of hours June 4
The Document Center and Mail Center will be closed for an hour, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, for a staff activity.
Parking and traffic fine deductions

Decorah community food pantry
The Decorah Community Food Pantry is available to Luther students staying on campus during the summer. Located at 604 W. Broadway in the Fireside room located west of First Lutheran Church’s main sanctuary, hours are 1:30-3:15 p.m. Monday-Friday and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings. Students must bring an ID and fill out a short application when checking in. Cloth bags to carry groceries are suggested. The pantry is a choice pantry and offers a selection of canned fruit and vegetables along with bread, eggs, frozen meat and other grocery items. Fresh vegetables are usually available. During the summer students may pick up coupons to The Farmers Market in Decorah once a month. Coupons can exchanged for fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat and honey. Each coupon is $1.

Center Stage Series subscriptions available
The 2019-20 Center Stage Series will present 10 unforgettable acts as well as two school productions: a variety of comedic, musical and thought provoking acts, including artists from across the world and close to home. Tickets for Center Stage Series events may be purchased as a subscription package through Friday, Aug. 30. Subscribers can build an individualized entertainment season by choosing tickets to a broad range of exceptional performances. Subscriptions can be purchased through Luther College's Ticket Office or online at tickets.luther.edu.

Paideia all-college summer reading books available now
The all-college summer reading for 2019 is "The Line Becomes a River: Dispatches from the Border" by Francisco Cantú. Raised by the daughter of a Mexican immigrant, Cantú studied international relations at American University and became obsessed with understanding the borderlands where he grew up. Wanting to experience the realities of the border for himself, Cantú took a job with the U.S. Border Patrol and worked in the deserts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas from 2008-2012. In his memoir, Cantú attempts to understand identity and violence, while discovering a human connection that is stronger than the border itself. Copies are available to faculty and staff without cost, sponsored by Paideia and the Dean's Office. Pick up your copy in the Luther Book Shop!

Save the date: Farwell Distinguished Lecture October 2019
Rebecca Traister will give the Farwell Distinguished Lecture Thursday, Oct. 10. Her talk will focus on topics discussed in her most recent book, "Good and Mad: The Revolutionary Power of Women's Anger," which explores the transformative power of female anger and its ability to transcend into a political movement. This event is a collaboration between Campus Programming and the Center for Ethics and Public Life. Visit the Campus Programming website to learn more.

Position openings
Payroll specialist (1.0 FTE): Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and production of all campus payrolls and associated reporting. Responsibilities will include payment of salaries and wages, deductions, payroll transmission, payroll-related external payments and reporting. Must be able to utilize Colleague database software, Glacier nonresident alien tax software, Microsoft Excel and Business Objects reporting software. Relevant job experience and accounting skills are necessary with proven ability to keep up-to-date on IRS payroll regulations pertaining to both U.S. residents and nonresidents. Administrative Assistant for the Vice President for Equity, Inclusion and Student Success and the Dean of Institutional Planning and Mission (1.0 FTE): The administrative assistant will serve as administrative support for the work of both senior administrators as well as collaborate with the other administrative assistant in the President's Suite and the executive assistant to the President. A minimum of an associate's degree, three years experience in positions of increasing levels of responsibility, ability to handle projects with competing priorities and the ability to exercise and maintain professional discretion in dealing with information in a sensitive and critical environment is required.
Coordinator of Diversity Recruitment or Assistant Director of Admissions (1.0 FTE): The successful candidate will work with area programs serving underrepresented students and supporting diversity, as well as assist in recruitment and retention efforts. Must be willing to travel extensively and make public presentations. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and a positive driving record that will enable them to be insured through the college. Bachelor's degree required with academic preparation in any discipline.
Associate Director, Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success, Coordinator, Catalyze at Luther (1.0 FTE): The associate director will assist the director and provide leadership and staff supervision in the absence of the director. The coordinator will provide oversight of the day-to-day functioning of the Catalyze program including the supervision of two Catalyze coaches. Master's degree and at least two years documented experience working with historically underrepresented students required. Candidates will also have knowledge of the NASPA/ACP professional competencies for student affairs educators.
Custodial weekend lead (1.0 FTE): Support weekend custodial staff in both academic and residential buildings. Custodial staff assists in maintaining building appearance, which consists of all areas including lobbies, entrances, classrooms, offices, hallways, breakrooms, auditoriums, conference rooms, staircases, study lounges, restrooms and shower rooms. This position will work weekends to be custodial support for events as needed and then adjust hours during the week to equal 40 hours. Typical work schedule is 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 1-7 p.m. Wednesdays-Fridays (weekday hours negotiable).

Gereon Kopf will participate at the annual conference of the Japanese Association for Comparative Philosophy (Hikaku shisō gakkai) as member of the board June 15-15, Kanazawa Japan; the International Society of Takahashi Philosophy (Kokusai takahashi tetsugaku gakkai) as co-president June 17, Yamagata, Japan; and the Husserl Abend as one of two invited speakers June 22, Tōhoku University, Sendai, Japan. He is also invited to give a public talk at Tōkai University June 19, Isehara, Japan, on "Views of life and death for the medical and social-welfare field in Japan."
Loren Toussaint gave the Kosmoi lecture and a master class at KU Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. He was offered fellowship status in the International Society for Science and Religion, and his forgiveness research recently was featured in a series of stories in Gauchazh, one of Brazil's largest newspapers: article one, article two, article three.
