Thank you and farewell

Best wishes to Dodi Bernatz, who will be leaving Luther College after over 26 years of service. Dodi currently served as part-time assistant in the Dean's Office, but has previously served as the administrative assistant in Financial Services, Olin, and International Student Office. Please share your thanks with Dodi for her dedicated service to Luther when you see her around Decorah this summer, most likely at her regular gig downtown at the Decorah Hatchery.

Position openings

Development Officer (1.0 FTE): Development Officer to serve as an ambassador of the college with responsibility to build and develop long-term, donor-centric relationships built on a firm understanding of the donor's interest, passions and values. The primary objective of the officer is to advance the mission of the College by planning and implementing a program to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective donors with major and planned gift potential in support of Luther's fundraising initiatives and institutional priorities. Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years in development work, major gifts or related area is required. This position requires traveling on a regular basis as well as frequent evening and weekend hours.

Director of Campus Programming (.92 FTE): The campus programming office is a central clearinghouse for the scheduling of college events ranging from lectures and workshops to performances and worship. The programming office, in consultation with varied on-campus constituencies, is responsible for developing and applying a campus programming philosophy that extends, expands and supports the underlying mission of the college. A bachelor's degree is required as well as excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in performing arts or arts management is strongly preferred as is experience working within a liberal arts college setting.

Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (1.0 FTE): The Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness will take a leading role in developing institutional self-knowledge and understanding of competitive position by collecting, organizing and interpreting institutional data to support decision making, for both academic and administrative departments. The Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness will have a minimum of a master's degree in a relevant field or demonstrated experience in institutional research.

Janet Irankunda received the college's Jenson Medal during the Commencement ceremonies for the Luther class of 2019. The Jenson Medal is presented each year to an outstanding senior, selected by the graduating class, who best demonstrates the ideals of the college through service to students and the college community.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

And finally...

June 17-23 is National Pollinator Week.

Twelve years ago the U.S. Senate's unanimous approval and designation of a week in June as "National Pollinator Week" marked a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinator Week has now grown into an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles.

Pollinator Week was initiated and is managed by Pollinator Partnership.

Humans need pollinators as birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles and other small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. Protecting pollinators is important!
