Position openings

Director of Marketing Operations (1.0 FTE): Join a growing marketing and communications team as a key department leader. The person in this role will design, build and manage the websites, systems, tools and analytics platforms that enable Luther College to effectively market to a variety of different audiences. A bachelor’s degree is required along with five years work experience in a marketing operations role and extensive experience overseeing the integration of digital marketing strategies deployed across channels such as email campaigns, social and web ads, landing pages and website development on open-source platforms such as Wordpress and/or Drupal. Higher education experience a plus.

Book Shop Staff/Union Cashier (1.0 FTE): Duties include the day-to-day operations of the bookstore, including cash register operation and customer service. Primary cashier duties include balancing cash drawers and preparing daily deposits. High school diploma or equivalent, retail experience and customer service skills are required. In addition, ability to lift and move 50 pounds and stand for extended periods is required.

Visual Media Manager (1.0 FTE): Responsible for the direction and creation of innovative digital media to tell the Luther story on the web, social media and traditional media. Bachelor's degree in a related field such as photography, video production, design, communications, journalism or related fields, or equivalent work experience and five years' experience in positions with increasing levels of responsibility required. Must be expert with DSLR cameras, audio equipment, lighting and editing tools such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. 

Front-End Web Developer (1.0 FTE): Responsible for the coding, usability and layout of the Luther College website. A bachelor's degree in a related field is required along with 3-5 years of front-end developing experience.

Administrative Assistant (.45 FTE): Provides support to the director of the Center for Intercultural Engagement & Student Success. The position is 20 hours per week for 10 months, August 15- June 15. Responsibilities will include: oversee preparation and management of student and office files and immigration and tax information; assist with organizing diversity programs and events, and create weekly newsletter. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office software, knowledge of data processing and database management. The ability to learn software specific to the college/office is very necessary.

Administrative Assistant (.28 FTE): Nursing, physically located at the Rochester campus.  Hours are part-time and follow the Luther College academic calendar. Generally, school runs from late August to mid-December and late January through May. Summers and January terms are normally off. Qualified candidates will have a high school degree and additional training in office procedures and Microsoft Office and a valid driver license is required. Two years' experience in office setting is preferred.

Kate Narveson presented a paper, "Lady Grace Mildmay Has a Vision," at the Early Modern Studies Conference at the University of Durham in England, as well as chairing a session on archival work on early modern English women.

Loren Toussaint talked about forgiveness in the workplace in a webinar hosted by the Health Enhancement Research Organization, a national think tank dedicated to advancing best practices in employee health promotion.

David Faldet joined Dr. Sara Atwood of Portland State University to present the program "Ruskin and Morris: A View from America" on June 22 at Kelmscott House in London as part of the William Morris Society lecture series, "There Is No Wealth but Life."

Peaches are in season. Enjoy this peach cobbler recipe!

Ingredients

Peach Filling

    4 large fresh peaches, sliced
    1/4 cup sugar

Cobbler Topping

    1/2 cup butter, melted
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    a pinch of salt
    1/4 cup turbinado sugar (optional)
    whipped cream or ice cream for serving

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Smear the bottom of 9×13 pan with a little bit of butter. Add peaches and sugar, and mix directly in the pan.
    Mix the butter, sugar, vanilla, flour, baking powder, and salt until a cookie-dough-like batter forms.
    Place scoops of the mixture over the top of the peaches. Spread with a spoon or with your fingers – no need for perfection here.
    Bake for 25 minutes. At this point it should be juicy and bubbly around the sides.
    Sprinkle the top with turbinado sugar. Bake another 10 minutes and then finish with a few minutes under the broiler for a few minutes to get it golden brown and slightly crunchy on top.
    For the best results, let it stand for 20-30 minutes before serving. But good luck with that!
