Peace Projects discussion Nov. 28

Last summer, Luther students Anila Bano '20, Rebecka Green '18, and Sthela Gun Holly Hanitrinirina '19, participated in a leadership conference in Pakistan, a Peace Scholar program in Norway and a Davis Projects for Peace in Madagascar, respectively. Come hear them discuss their amazing experiences 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Olin 102. Center for Ethics and Public Engagement resident Gaone Masire '83, daughter of the former president of Botswana, will moderate the panel, and hopefully inspire ideas for international engagement. Position openings

Primary responsibilities include the recruitment of students from a specific geographical region, visiting targeted high schools, attend select college fair programs and coordinate all social media outreach for the Admission Office. Duties also include interviewing prospective students on campus and assisting with other admissions-related activities/events as assigned. Extensive travel is required, and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when appropriate. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, some computer knowledge and the ability to make public presentations. Previous experience in admissions or a related field is preferred, and an appreciation for residential, liberal arts colleges would be helpful. A bachelor's degree is required, and applicants must have a valid driver's license. Experience in sales, marketing, communication and education is highly desirable. This position is open only to internal applicants.

Full-time CRM coordinator: Admissions seeks a highly-motivated individual for a position coordinating the use of Luther's CRM platform for strategic admission recruitment. Primary responsibilities for the position include planning and executing the recruitment processes that are run out of Slate. BA degree, knowledge of enrollment management and knowledge of CRM systems required. This position is open only to internal applicants.

Part-time administrative assistant—nursing, Rochester campus: Coordinates and carries out the ongoing support staff activities for the Department of Nursing—Rochester office. An associate's degree is required. Experience working in an office, proficiency working with computers, strong organizational skills, effective interpersonal communications skills and ability to work independently are required.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS

Loren Toussaint and colleagues Arndt Bussing and Daniela Rodrigues Recchia of Witten/Herdecke University, Herdecke, Germany, published the article, "German Soldiers' Needs to Clarify Open Aspects in Their Life, to Talks About Fears and Worries, and to Forgive and to Be Forgiven as a Matter of Life Reflection" in Frontiers in Psychiatry (Psychopathology Section). Over 1,000 German soldiers' needs were assessed and related to a variety of mental health parameters.

Megan Oliver '19, spent the summer interning with Hälsa International in Togo, "a non-governmental organization based in West Africa that provides free access to education and health care to underprivileged children." For four weeks of her summer, Oliver interned on a farm.

Jack Jagielski '19, spent the summer interning in Rochester, Minnesota, at the Mayo Clinic Center for Sleep Medicine. Working alongside fellow James Conway '19, and Emma Veum '19, Jagielski scored sleep studies for muscle tone during the Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep.

Fostering civil dialogue in the community, Elizabeth Wiebke '19, spent the summer interning with the Frank Zeidler Center for Public Discussion in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She took over for the office manager for a month, helped develop positions for future interns, created and posted social media assets and made website updates.

Combining his passions for social work and psychology, Daniel Dejapin '20, spent the summer interning at the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Philippines. Dejapin was assigned to the National Training School for Marillac Hills—National Training School for Girls in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Lena Schmitt '19, partnered with Kirk Larsen to survey moth communities in the planted tall grass prairie and oak-hickory forest habitats of Decorah, Iowa. This past summer they repeatedly visited six different sites in the community and collected moths to assemble baseline information of the species of moths in Decorah and how their diversity compares between a habitat type.
