Peace Projects discussion Nov. 28

Last summer, Luther students Anila Bano '20, Rebecka Green '18, and Sthela Gun Holly Hanitrinirina '19, participated in a leadership conference in Pakistan, a Peace Scholar program in Norway and a Davis Projects for Peace in Madagascar, respectively. Come hear them discuss their amazing experiences 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Olin 102. Center for Ethics and Public Engagement resident Gaone Masire '83, daughter of the former president of Botswana, will moderate the panel, and hopefully inspire ideas for international engagement. Position openings

Assistant director of admissions: A .75 FTE position. Primary responsibilities include the recruitment of students from a specific geographical region, visiting targeted high schools, attend select college fair programs and coordinate all social media outreach for the Admission Office. Duties also include interviewing prospective students on campus and assisting with other admissions-related activities/events as assigned. Extensive travel is required, and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when appropriate. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, some computer knowledge and the ability to make public presentations. Previous experience in admissions or a related field is preferred, and an appreciation for residential, liberal arts colleges would be helpful. A bachelor's degree is required, and applicants must have a valid driver's license. Experience in sales, marketing, communication and education is highly desirable. This position is open only to internal applicants.

Full-time CRM coordinator: Admissions seeks a highly-motivated individual for a position coordinating the use of Luther's CRM platform for strategic admission recruitment. Primary responsibilities for the position include planning and executing the recruitment processes that are run out of Slate. Bachelor's degree, knowledge of enrollment management and knowledge of CRM systems required. This position is open only to internal applicants.

Part-time administrative assistant—nursing, Rochester campus: Coordinates and carries out the ongoing support staff activities for the Department of Nursing—Rochester office. An associate's degree is required. Experience working in an office, proficiency working with computers, strong organizational skills, effective interpersonal communications skills and ability to work independently are required.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS

Amy Weldon was nominated by the literary magazine "The Hopper," for a Pushcart Prize for her story "The Serpent." Weldon's story appeared in Issue III of "The Hopper" in 2018 and can be read on Weldon's website, https://amyeweldon.com/short-fiction/.

Jim Martin-Schramm delivered a panel presentation on "Preaching Creation and Ecology" in the Homiletics section at the annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in Denver, Colorado Nov. 18. The following day he also responded to four papers that addressed a book he co-edited, Eco-Reformation: Grace and Hope for a Planet in Peril, at a joint session of the Christian Spirituality Unit and the Religion and Ecology Unit at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion.

Loren Toussaint and colleagues from an international collaboration from Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and the United States published an article, "Physical activity and potential correlates in hemodialysis patients," in the journal "Prevention and Health Promotion."

David Shindelar '19, spent his summer in St. Joseph, Missouri, interning for the Kansas City Chiefs football team. Shindelar coordinated, managed and operated the youth fan experience and worked on local marketing campaigns, player-fan interaction and other daily operational tasks.

Faye Lee '20, spent her summer interning with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. While there, she focused on donor engagement and fundraising. Specifically, this included researching prospective donors, creating fundraising strategies and publicity for the Global Church.

Bishal Parajuli '20, spent his summer in Decorah, Iowa, working with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, where he maintained and restored native landscapes in Northeast Iowa.

Christine Wattermann '20, spent the summer interning at Find Your Power, a non-profit company based in Minneapolis aimed at empowering women. Wattermann worked to establish an individual giving plan for Find Your Power.
