HR updates

New in NorseHub!
Employee 1095-C (health insurance coverage) forms can be delivered electronically. To opt-in to electronic delivery, please log into NorseHub.luther.edu, click on the "Tax Information" button, select the "1095-C Information" tab, and make an election. 1095-C forms will be available at the end of January. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.

Security patch for printer drivers

ITS is pushing an important security patch this week to all Windows faculty and staff workstations that addresses a vulnerability with printer drivers. The process takes just a few seconds, happens through our normal orange update dialog boxes, and does not require a reboot. When prompted, click "Finish" followed by "Done." For questions, contact the Technology Help Desk at 387-1000.  

Sign up for a February wellness screening

During 2020, employees and spouses covered by the Luther College Health Care Plan have additional wellness benefits and requirements. Sign up for the Tuesday, Feb. 11, blood screenings with Winneshiek Medical Center here on campus by contacting <wellness>.

Scheduled Reason maintenance Jan. 29

Our Reason CMS will be down for maintenance 6–8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. During this time, we ask that no one is working within the CMS as we do not want any work on the website to get lost. Please email <cunnjo01> with any questions you may have about the downtime. 

Want to be a Certified Mental Health First Aider? 

Limited openings are available for faculty and staff to participate in Adult Mental Health First Aid training. 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Nobel with a one-hour lunch break on your own. MHFA teaches how to help someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Training is free and you receive a three-year certification. Register online. CEPE book discussion group

Join the CEPE in reading Sami Schalk's "Bodyminds Reimagined: (Dis)ability, Race, and Gender in Black Women's Speculative Fiction." Prof. Schalk explores how black women's speculative fiction offers new possibilities for understanding the relationship of the body to the self, revealing the genre's potential for transcending reality's limitations and charting new futures. Prof. Schalk will be giving a public lecture at Luther on Feb. 25, so read her book prior to her visit! Sign up on the CEPE website. Sponsored by LDA, BSU and CEPE.

Youth volleyball: G-Force Club Team

Ages 8-12. Six week commitment with 10 practices and three, one-day tournaments (typically half days). We will be having an informational meeting for parents as well as a tryout/open gym for those interested 5–6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in Regents Center Gym. Give a treat to a friend, your kids or that special someone. Order giant heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies with a personalized message or a dozen cookies with all the fixings to frost at home. Luther employee fitness classes

Sign up today for the spring semester's first seven week classes of wellness-subsidized employee yoga, OULA and Zumba classes. Details and registration form are available on the fitness class site. Classes are open to current employees and spouses. Email <wellness> with questions.

Missing portable whiteboards

The chemistry department is looking for the set of whiteboards that disappeared out of the Office Reuse Supply Closet in Valders. The boards were in a tote alongside markers and wipes that were labeled "Chemistry Department." If you by chance happen to have these boards by mistake, please contact Olga Michaels <olga.michels>.

Professor emerita new book spotlight
Please congratulate Diane Scholl, professor emerita of English, on her new book "Salt." The Book Shop has copies available for purchase and peeking.

Annual Wii Bowling Tournament in the Book Shop
Team entries are due Monday–Friday, Feb. 3–7. The Wii Bowling tournament officially starts the week of Feb. 10–March 20. Gather four of your friends or co-workers and take a mental wellness break in the Book Shop. Retired staff and faculty are welcome too. Please sign up online on the Rec Services website.

Luther Music Department presents J-term Opera Scenes performance tonight Jan. 28

The students of MUS 185: Introduction to Opera Scenes will present a diverse program of fully-staged scenes from some of opera's greatest works at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the Jenson-Noble Recital Hall. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission, and is a green-card credited event for all student music majors and minors.

Poetry reading: Literary Collage Jan. 28

The students of ENG 239: Literary Collage invite the community to a reading and performance of the work they've produced during this January Term. Come enjoy a lively and engaging hour of poetry, and meet visiting professor Elizabeth J. Colen, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Marty's.

Luther's Annual Mid-Winter Norse Community Day rescheduled for Feb. 1

Community Day will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, when Luther plays Buena Vista. Anyone who made online reservations for the event and still plans to attend on the rescheduled date does not need to do anything. People who are now unable to attend on Feb. 1 due to the date change and would like to request a refund may call the Alumni Office at 563-387-1164, or email <sointr01>. Nordic Choir homecoming concert Feb. 11

Nordic Choir will be performing their homecoming concert as part of their 2020 Winter Tour at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the CFL. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission. It will also be streamed live at stream.luther.edu

CSS: Neil Berg's '101 Years of Broadway' Feb. 14

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, the Luther College Center Stage Series brings Neil Berg’s "101 Years of Broadway" to the Main Hall of the CFL. Five of Broadway's finest stars will perform songs from some of the most-loved Broadway musicals. The show combines the stunning vocals of the cast with the talent of Neil Berg, award-winning composer/lyricist, to create a dramatic and entertaining event that audience members have called "unforgettable" and "a knockout." Tickets are available online.

Retirement

Sue Halverson is retiring after serving Luther for over 41 years. Sue has been a steadfast presence in the Student Life Office and has seen and experienced a range of situations over the years. Sympathy

We write to share a deep sorrow that has come to us. Our beloved son Ben died this past weekend as the result of injuries suffered in a terrible fall. Service arrangements are pending. Our whole family is grateful for your prayers, love and support as we grieve together and commend Ben to God's eternal mercy. In gratitude and lament, Pastor Mike and Sue Blair.
