Spring Convocation Feb. 6

President Ward invites all faculty, staff and students to gather at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Main Hall of the CFL so that we may begin the spring semester together in community. The focus of the gathering will be continued conversation about ideas that emerged from the community during the Charette on Nov. 19. The small-group discussions will be preceded by remarks from President Ward. Given the active nature of the convocation, there will not be an academic procession.

NICC and Luther College Articulation Agreement Feb. 6

Thursday morning, join President Ward and NICC President Dr. Liang Chee Wee at the signing of an articulation agreement between Luther College and Northeast Iowa Community College, for a social work program. This Pre-Social Work Transfer Pathway partnership offers students the opportunity to complete the Associate of Arts degree at NICC with credits that directly transfer toward Luther's BA in social work. The event will take place at 11:45 a.m. in Peace Dining Room; all are welcome and encouraged to attend.

New process to request a CAE tutor

Attention faculty advisors: the process by which students may request a tutor appointment has been upgraded to WCONLINE. Starting immediately, students will need to go to https://luther.mywconline.com/ to schedule an appointment with a peer tutor. For assistance, the instructional "Quick Start Guide" is available at https://www2.luther.edu/cae/tutoring/request/, or students may call the CAE office, 387-1270, or stop by the CAE office in the lower level of Preus Library, suite 108.

Website changes and updates made within Reason

We have received several notifications of website changes and updates made within Reason not appearing on the live website. With our upgrade to Reason 4.8, you will need to remove any bookmarks you have to reason.luther.edu/admin—that URL will take you to an old server, and not our live website. Please use www.luther.edu/admin to make any changes within Reason.

Security patch for printer drivers

ITS is pushing an important security patch this week to all Windows faculty and staff workstations that addresses a vulnerability with printer drivers. The process takes just a few seconds, happens through our normal orange update dialog boxes, and does not require a reboot. When prompted, click "Finish" followed by "Done." For questions, contact the Technology Help Desk at 387-1000.  

Free Friday morning open gyms Feb. 7–March 20

Wellness has partnered with UERPC Safe Routes to School to offer Free Friday Morning Open Gyms again this winter! Parents (or childcare providers) and children age 0-5 years can join from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for some open gym fun inside the Regents Center East Gym. There is no admission fee, and balls, scooters, etc. will be provided. Contact <wellness> with any questions.

Dorian Orchestra Festival Feb. 9–10

The Dorian Orchestra Festival will be held on campus Sunday and Monday, February 9–10. Festival participants will be eating lunch Monday from 12:30–1:30 p.m., so please plan accordingly. Our latest data shows us that 12.3% of our current first-year class at Luther attended a Dorian Music Festival (academic-year festivals) while in high school. Thank you for welcoming these 150 high school string players to our campus!

CEPE book group

The Meaning of Matthew Shepard: My Son's Murder in Laramie and a World Transformed. Judy Shepard writes about losing her 21-year-old son Matt after he was brutally attacked, tied to a fence, and left to die outside of Laramie, Wyoming. Judy will be speaking on campus on March 3, as part of Hope Over Hate week, to promote a greater understanding of LGBTQ issues and empower audiences to embrace human dignity and diversity through outreach and advocacy. Not Quite Free Lunch Feb. 11

Join colleagues at the Not Quite Free Lunch 11:30 a.m.–1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Peace Dining Room, sponsored by Wellness. Boost social and emotional wellness by getting away from the typical work space and mingling with folks from across campus. The menu includes chipotle mango glazed ham, garlic and oregano roasted red potatoes, tossed salad and dessert. The charge is $5, payable by cash, check or Luther ID. Wellness Lunch-n-Learn event Feb. 18

Individuals are constantly changing in their quest to live life well, the Wellness Program's 2019-2020 theme is "Actively Becoming." If you are staying stagnant and not moving forward, you are not living life to the fullest. Join us for this month's lunch-and-learn at noon Tuesday, Feb.18, for a conversation with Michelle Whitehill as she helps us declutter in all stages of our lives. We have 16 free lunches, so register before Feb. 11. If you miss out on the free lunches, you are certainly welcome to join us and bring your own!

Interim pastor in College Ministries

College Ministries is glad and grateful to welcome Pastor Judd Larson as interim college pastor for spring 2020. Pastor Judd will be on campus Wednesdays, Thursdays, and two Sundays a month to meet with students and others for pastoral care, mentor College Ministries student leaders, and take part in leading chapel and Sunday morning worship. His office is in CFL 107 and his email address is <larsju01>. This is Pastor Judd's third interim with College Ministries, and we are deeply grateful for the experience and care for Luther students that Pastor Judd brings to this call. We will welcome Pastor Judd at an installation service in chapel at 10:30 a.m. in the CFL Recital Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 5; Pastor Judd will preach in chapel that day to begin the new term. Please join us in welcoming Pastor Judd!

CELT book discussion

Join CELT and your colleagues for coffee and snacks and a discussion of Cia Verschelden's "Bandwidth Recovery." We started discussing part one on Jan. 28. Youth volleyball: G-Force Club Team

Ages 8-12. Six week commitment with 10 practices and three, one-day tournaments (typically half days). We will be having an informational meeting for parents as well as a tryout/open gym for those interested 5–6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in Regents Center Gym.
