Anti-racism education
As we continue to educate ourselves and one another in the work of anti-racism at Luther College, please note that the KATIE site on Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts is now available to all faculty, staff and students. It includes readings and presentations from an anti-racism institute, information on the Race Exhibit that was on display at Luther in fall of 2019 and a link to the New York Times 1619 Project.
Portrait and passport photos
Summer portrait and passport photos days will be offered on Thursday, June 25, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and again on Thursday, July 23, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Beginning in August, portrait and passport photo days will resume on the second Thursday of each month from 9 a.m-4 p.m. Portraits are free to students, faculty and staff. Passport photos are $5 each. Photos are taken in Dahl Centennial Union, room 213. If you have any questions, please contact <bjerni01>.
Conservation grazing goats in Roslien Woods
As part of a novel restoration project to reduce the abundance of invasive shrubs, Luther's natural areas will be home to a local goat herd for the next 4-6 weeks. You may visit the goats in Roslien Woods but please keep groups small and noise levels low while the goats get used to their surroundings. High voltage electric fencing is being used to keep the goats enclosed so do NOT touch the fence, lean over fencing or enter the goat enclosure. Contact <mcnimo01> with any questions.
"Lessons learned from the 2008 recession"
The Luther College Career Center and Alumni Office have partnered together to develop a virtual Tuesday mini-series, designed to engage our community and support our 2020 graduates and rising seniors with their life and career journey during this unprecedented time. Presented on the Luther College Alumni Facebook page at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, Luther alumni who graduated into the last recession will share their stories of how they obtained their first jobs, overcame challenges and navigated their way forward.
"Navigating forward using design thinking and strengths"
Presented on the Luther College Alumni Facebook page at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, join Luther’s associate dean for integrated academic and career development, CliftonStrengths program coordinator and current students as they reframe common career misconceptions and share new approaches through the lens of design thinking and individual strengths. Receive encouragement and learn tools and strategies, including networking skills, to build your way forward and hear from two rising seniors who are currently practicing these techniques.
The Bulletin: Summer edition
The Bulletin, emailed from the Campus Programming Office each Tuesday and Friday, carries event listings and other announcements of interest to students and the greater campus community. It typically takes a pause during the summer and resumes in August. This year, however, the Bulletin will continue through the summer, with a release every Friday as a way to connect students and others to campus life with news of special projects and programs. Please send submissions to <bulletin> by noon on Thursdays.
Call for suggestions for the 2021 Paideia Summer Read
What book could our incoming first-year students read for Paideia in service of what President Ward called Luther’s “ongoing work of studying, disrupting, and doing our part" to address systemic racism? Books can be fiction or nonfiction, classic or recent. They should be no more than about 250 pages long, and accessible to incoming college students. Send book suggestions to <paideia> by June 22 and consider joining the Choosing the 2021 Summer Read workshop.
Paideia: Choosing the 2021 Summer Read
All faculty and staff members are invited to join in the process of choosing the Paideia Summer Read for next year's incoming class. The workshop will take place in 4 one-hour Zoom discussions with reading selections sent out in advance. Dates are Tuesday, July 14, 21, 28 and Aug. 4 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Register here.
Admissions to offer Virtual Summer Preview Days
Virtual Summer Preview Days will take place on June 24, July 8, July 22 and August 5 from 3-4:30 p.m. Prospective families will learn about Luther's academic programs, study abroad opportunities, student advising, student outcomes and more! Current students will also lead a virtual tour of campus, with time for questions along the way. Learn more.
Decorah Community Writing Project "de-isolation" underway
The Center for Ethics and Public Engagement invites the Decorah and Luther College community to submit essays, stories and poems that reflect on a world with coronavirus for a printed anthology titled "de-isolation." All entries should be positive and hopeful, perhaps even humorous, and no longer than 10 pages. Submissions will be accepted from June 6-July 7 at <de-isolation>. All authors featured in the book will receive one free copy. More information here.

Positions
Interim Coordinator, Catalyze Program & Transfer Student Support (1.0 FTE): Perform extensive student support and administrative services. Duties will include providing oversight of the day-to-day functioning of the Catalyze program including the supervision of two Catalyze coaches. Qualified candidates have a master's degree and knowledge of the NASPA/ACPA professional competencies for student affairs educators. A minimum of two years of documented experience working with historically underrepresented students is required along with a demonstrated ability to effectively navigate issues of cultural differences, combined with an understanding of student development.
Science Technical Support Staff (1.0 FTE): Responsible for the procurement, repair and general maintenance of equipment in the departments of biology, chemistry and physics. Main focus of repair and maintenance will be on electronics needs. Also responsible for computer support in all three departments. Qualified candidates have an associate’s degree with training and/or experience in the general operation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment and basic knowledge of computer set-up and maintenance. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred.

Shannon Baker '20 and Madeleine Flom-Staab '20 have received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award. Shannon Baker was selected for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Peru while Madeleine Flom-Staab received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Germany. However, Flom-Staab has declined this award to accept a United States Teaching Assistantship in Austria. Joseph Keeley '20 has been named an alternate and may receive a Fulbright grant if funding becomes available for an English Teaching Assistantship in South Korea.
Ideas and Creations
Guy Nave wrote on the topic of "What is Juneteenth?" He also contributed to a video "Juneteenth: A Mini-Symposium Featuring Luther College Faculty," along with Novian Whitsitt and Jacqueline Wilkie, discussing Juneteenth and other questions related to U.S. history.
