Coronavirus updates
Each week, we will use this section to highlight key messages to various members of the Luther community and summarize developments and decisions over the past week. Whenever possible, we will also signal forthcoming messages.
Reopening of Legends and the Aquatic Center
Beginning Monday, July 6, the Legends Fitness for Life Center and the Aquatic Center is open to all current and incoming students, faculty and staff members and their immediate families. The hours of operation for Legends are Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Open swim hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Swimming will be restricted to one swimmer per lane - swimmers should register for a lane in advance using this form. No locker room facilities will be available and all users are asked to enter the Regents Center through the north lobby doors labeled "Event Entrance." Users must wear a mask at all times while in Legends. Swimmers must wear a mask while entering and exiting the building and wear their swimsuits to and from the Regents Center.

College Ministries Pride T-shirts
The Luther College Ministries Pride T-shirt was created in 2018 for the first Decorah Pride festival and has been our most requested t-shirt for reprinting. Between now and Aug. 1, you can order a t-shirt online for delivery or pick up in Decorah in early August. Each sale includes a donation to Decorah Pride: a movement to increase the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrate diversity, and unleash fabulous creativity in Northeast Iowa.
2020 Family Weekend canceled
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the risks involved with gathering in large groups, this year's Family Weekend, originally scheduled for Sept. 25-27, will not be held in-person. Plans are being developed for a couple of virtual events instead with details forthcoming. Be sure to mark next year's 2021 calendar for Family Weekend, Sept. 17-19.
Free online interfaith conference featuring Luther scholars
The Network of ELCA Colleges and University Interfaith Gathering (set to be hosted in person at Luther this year) has moved to two 1.5 hour online webinars that are free and available to the Luther community. Professors Gereon Kopf and Wanda Deifelt, as well as Asha Aden '20, will take part as panelists with Pastor Anne Edison-Albright and Vicar Amalia Vagts hosting. The webinars are from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15 ("Religiously Fluid in the 21st Century: Higher Education and the Case for Interreligious Education") and Thursday, July 16 ("A Declaration of Inter-Religious Commitment: A policy statement of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America"). Position openings
Assistant men's and women's tennis coach (.49 FTE): Assist the head coach with all aspects of the men's and women's tennis programs as assigned by the head coach and actively participate in the recruitment of student athletes. Qualifications include: 1) a bachelor's degree required; 2) Collegiate tennis experience preferred; 3) 1-3 years of successful high school or college tennis coaching experience preferred.
Assistant football coach and HPES instructor (.83 FTE): Assist the head coach with all aspects of the football program, including but not limited to, practice organization, contest management, recruiting, staff development, budget oversight, student-athlete development, and academic monitoring. The assistant will be a staff instructor in HPES and have the opportunity to perform administrative responsibilities in the Athletic Department. Qualifications include: 1) a bachelor's degree required, 2) successful college or high school coaching experience preferred, and 3) collegiate athletic participation required.
Assistant men's and women's soccer coach (.83 FTE): Assist the head coaches with all aspects of the men's and women's soccer programs, including but not limited to, practice organization, contest management, recruiting, staff development, budget oversight, student-athlete development, and academic monitoring. Multimedia strategic fellow (1.0 FTE): Will participate on the User Services and Multimedia teams within Information Technology Services to assist the multimedia and makerspace lead in promoting and supporting the effective uses of video, audio, textual, graphical and other electronic media in support of both online and on-campus teaching, learning, research and administrative purposes. Qualified candidates have a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Preference will be given to a recent Luther graduate who was a multimedia technician student worker or other student worker within ITS or Luther.

Andy Hageman published a "double-feature" book review of two new gothic/horror/eco novels:
"Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and "Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre" by Max Brooks.
Alexandra White was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Scholar grant to teach and conduct research at Sofia "St. Kliment Ohridski" University in Sofia, Bulgaria for the spring semester of 2021, with a focus on a socially responsible management.

In the post, "Connecting In a Time of the Coronavirus," Maren Johnson describes a project coordinated by the Torgerson Center for Nordic Studies that focuses on Nordic values and how can they be used to address the coronavirus.
