Parking restrictions for move-in weekend Aug. 30-31
On Saturday, Aug. 31, Luther will be filled with excitement as first-year students and their families experience the joy of moving into our residence halls. For many, this will be an emotional experience as the students embark on a new adventure and parents see them on their way. In order to help facilitate the move in process we will be reserving parking areas near the halls to accommodate the movers. Special parking restrictions will go into effect starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. The small parking lot south of Ylvisaker and the lot north of Valders will be reserved for vehicles unloading for move in. High Street, between Jenson and Campus House, will be designated as a one way street, west to east, so moving vehicles may park on the north side of the street. There will be no parking on the south side of the street. Faculty, staff and students are asked to refrain from parking in these areas. Thank you for your cooperation in extending this welcome to the new members of the Luther community.

Summer wellness chair massages
Wellness is hosting a massage therapist on campus 1-5 p.m. Aug. 26, for $20/15 minute chair massages, paid by cash, check or card at appointment or booking. Chair massages can help reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow/circulation, increase energy-improving productivity, decrease anxiety and enhance immune system function. New Student Orientation Schedules
The fall 2019 New Student Orientation schedules (first-year and transfer students) are available online. If you did not receive a hard copy in the mail and would like one, email <students>.
KATIE drop-in workshop Sept. 2
KATIE drop-in workshop 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 2. During this "come and go" working session for faculty and staff, KATIE Support Team members will be available to answer questions and help you build your 2019 Fall course sites. With hands-on assistance provided, all participants should plan to bring a laptop and some relevant course information, such as a syllabus or meeting notes.
Koru Mindfulness
Stu Johnston completed the training program and is now a certified Koru Mindfulness instructor. Funding for the training was provided by the Luther College TRIO Achievement Program. Koru Mindfulness® is an evidence-based curriculum specifically designed for teaching mindfulness, meditation, and stress management to college students and other young adults. Koru Mindfulness has also been used in age groups ranging from high school students to nursing home residents. If you have any questions feel free to contact Stu at <johnstst>.
Swimming lessons available
The Luther Swimming and Diving team is offering three sessions of swimming lessons this fall. More information is available through the sign-up form. Space is limited and these one-on-one lessons are available on a first come basis. Please contact Aaron Zander <aaron.zander> with questions.

Please see the Decorah Chamber calendar notice. The ISU Extension and Outreach office is offering a series of informational sessions on Finances of Caregiving. Plan for future care by involving all members of your family in financial decisions and develop a plan that works well for both care receivers and care givers. 9-11 a.m., Aug. 20, 27, Sept. 3, 10. Gear needed
The Endeavor Together pre-orientation program needs sleeping bags and pads for participants who do not have their own, including 40 new international students. If you can loan or donate a sleeping bag, sleeping pad or other outdoor gear, please contact Amy Webber in the CIES office at <webberam> by Aug. 21.
Luther College Community Music School opens for second year
The Luther College Community Music School is now taking registrations for the fall semester. We are excited that Claire Thompson, area music educator and Luther alumna, will serve as coordinator of the program! LyndaCampus Upgraded to LinkedIn Learning
Luther's LyndaCampus software has been upgraded to LinkedIn Learning. When signing in to linkedinlearning.luther.edu, each Luther faculty, staff and student has the option to connect their LinkedIn account, if they so desire. LinkedIn Learning has the same great content as LyndaCampus and it provides a more personalized experience. SAC presents hypnotist Jim Wand Sept. 7
Student Activities Council presents master hypnotist Jim Wand at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, in the Center for Faith and Life. Wand is considered to be one of the top hypnotic entertainers in the world today. Join in on the orientation fun on September 7th and witness it for yourself. In addition to students, the event is open to the public with a $10 admission charge. Doors open at 7 p.m.

ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS
Loren Toussaint and his colleagues published the article entitled, "Is Forgiveness One of the Secrets to Success? Considering the Costs of Workplace Disharmony and the Benefits of Teaching Employees to Forgive" in the journal, "The American Journal of Health Promotion." The article explores the benefits of forgiveness in a sample of Ameriprise financial employees. Participants in the forgiveness program increased sales productivity by 24%. The article is available at no cost.
Anna Lavender '21, Amelia Morrow '22, Hannah Gross '20, and Hannah Stenoien '20, got a real-world experience in politics and policy this summer. The Luther College Platform Chapter took part in the Platform Convention 2019 in Washington, D.C., July 20-22. While at the convention, students heard from keynote speakers including New York Rep. Grace Meng, participated in policy panels led by experts in their field and met with staffers of congress on Capitol Hill to advocate policy.

Luther has a strong radio tradition: KWLC is one of the oldest continuously operating college radio stations in the country, signing on December 18, 1926 when then-president of Luther Oscar L. Olson read the Gettysburg Address. KWLC now broadcasts seven days a week as a time-share station, sharing our frequency and hours with local commercial station KDEC-AM.
