ANNOUNCEMENTS

Charette Nov. 19

On Monday, Nov. 11, Luther College faculty and staff should have received an email from President Ward, inviting them to participate in a charette 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Peace Dining Room. A charette is a fast-paced, participatory planning process that brings together stakeholders to generate innovative solutions to problems, as well as visions for the future.

The charette on Nov. 19 will focus upon those activities within the strategic plan that are connected to the business model of the college. During the charette, groups will identify and share ideas related to enrollment, expense reductions, financial aid and the cost of attendance, new audiences, and auxiliary revenue streams. Some of the ideas that emerge from the discussion as the most resonant, pressing, or promising will then be further explored as part of the planning process to balance Luther's budget.

Please send questions and RSVPs to <schoco01>.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

And finally...

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness." –Dalai Lama

Tomorrow is World Kindness Day, and this entire week is World Kindness Week.

Kindness is the quality of being friendly and considerate. Showing kindness goes a long way. Kindness helps others feel valued. Kindness also has benefits for the person being kind. These benefits include:

  • elevation of dopamine levels in the brain, which makes us feel good
  • the feeling of emotional warmth, which leads to a healthier heart
  • reduction in inflammation, which can slow the aging process
  • reduction of emotional distance, which helps couples feel more bonded
  • contagiousness that often sets off a pay-it-forward ripple effect

With all of these incredible benefits, it pays in more ways than one to be kind. Being kind changes lives. It not only changes your life, but it improves the lives of those on the receiving end of kindness. Some even believe that kindness has the potential to change the whole world. #WorldKindnessDay #WorldKindnessWeek
