Being Community updates

Schedule your COVID test today! The EAST program has plenty of spots available. Read an FAQ about the program, watch a video to see how it works, and sign up online. HR update

1095-C forms are available
Human Resources has generated 2020 1095-C Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage forms. Employees who elected to receive those online can log in to NorseHub to view and print their forms. For employees who have not opted in to online distribution, we will be printing and distributing forms via campus mail this week. If you do not receive a form or have questions, please contact Matthew Bills <bills>, 387-1189.

It's not too late to get a flu vaccine!

Health Service will be offering the last of the available flu vaccine through February. If you have not yet had a flu vaccine and would like to receive one, please call Health Service at 563-387-1045 and schedule an appointment. These are free for students and would be $25 cash or check for staff and faculty (a receipt will be given for reimbursement at the time of service). #GetVaccinated!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) reimbursement application open

Applications for the CSA Reimbursement Program are now being accepted. You can find all the details, and the application form, on the Center for Sustainable Communities website. The program reimburses current faculty and staff 50% (maximum $100) of the cost of a CSA subscription. The CSA program is a popular program that supports local farmers and helps your household eat fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits. For questions, contact <sustainability>.

ISAA Fashion Show fundraiser continues

Proceeds raised through the Feb. 13 ISAA Fashion Show are going to support refugees affected by the Tigray War in Ethiopia. Even though the fashion show is over, faculty and staff can still donate to help the displaced refugees by purchasing tickets on Luther's ticket website or calling Luther's Box Office and donating over the phone.

Luther pays tribute to James Baldwin during Black History Month

Luther has events planned throughout the month of February to celebrate the work and achievements of people of color during Black History Month. This year's events feature author and activist James Baldwin. Through film showings, lectures, discussions and performances, audience members will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the struggles and hardships that came and still come from being Black in America and gain a historical perspective that can be used to better understand recent events. 'How I Left the Interfaith Movement and Found Interfaith Solidarity,' Dr. Edward Curtis Feb. 24

Edward Curtis will offer reflections and invite dialogue on the broader theme of interfaith activism in light of his own disillusionment with corporate, and foundation-funded interfaith movements in the United States. Curtis will address how this disillusionment ultimately opened the way for him to focus more of his energy on Black, Muslim, and Palestinian liberation. Join us at 7 p.m. CST Wednesday, Feb. 24, for this virtual event open to the public, with a livestream link available at luther.edu/events. Sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement and College Ministries.

Virtual Black History Month film screening Feb. 25

As part of Luther's commemoration of Black History Month, community members are invited to a virtual screening of "I Am Not Your Negro" on Thursday, Feb. 25. Raoul Peck’s 2017 film explores James Baldwin’s writings (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) and television appearances. The film is available for members of the Luther community to watch anytime via the Kanopy streaming service. A Decorah Public Library card can also be used to access the film.

Virtual senior recital: Frances Marshall, cello Feb. 27

Frances Marshall '21, cello, in collaboration with Shana Liu, Clare Dvoracek, Nolan Mancl, and Andrew Moore, will perform a senior recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. The program includes works by JS Bach, Shostakovich, Berlin, and Eaton. This event will be livestreamed. Frances is a student of Kacy Clopton and Jon Ailabouni.

Wind and Percussion Concert Feb. 27

The Luther College Wind and Percussion Ensemble will present a program at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. It will include music by Timothy Mahr, Jan Van der Roost, Jennifer Jolley, and Dmitri Shostakovich. This event will be livestreamed.

Virtual student recital: Abigail Toussaint, oboe Feb. 28

Abigail Toussaint '22, oboe, in collaboration with Kathy Reed, Kirsten Loynachan, Corey Silberstein, and Madi Miller, will perform a junior recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. The program includes works by Handel, Hindemith, and Bellini. This event will be livestreamed. Abigail is a student of Heather Armstrong.

'Sustainability Careers: A Luther College Alumni Panel' March 4

Luther College is hosting an online panel discussion titled "Sustainability Careers: A Luther College Alumni Panel." At 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, four Luther alumni will speak about how sustainability concerns have influenced their careers. Learn more about the panelists here. 'Women in the Lead: Student Experiences at Luther' March 8

Join us at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 8, International Women's Day, to hear student leaders share the joys and challenges of being "women in the lead." Featured speakers include Kelao Charmaine Neumbo '22 (president, International Students and Allies Assn.), Evelyn Montoya '23 (president, Latinxs Unidx), and Ursula Damtse '22 (social media coordinator, Black Student Union). Position openings

Career Coach and Internship Manager (1.0 FTE): Position provides individual and group career coaching for students and alumni by helping them throughout the career development process from building self-awareness to exploration of opportunities to effectively landing jobs. This individual will also manage the logistics of Luther's internship program and provide administrative support to the office and Career Center Director. Andy Hageman published an essay about the work that first-year students in his 2021 September Term did exploring Chinese SF and zooming with the author.

Susan Schmidt is part of a team that has developed the Villanova Interdisciplinary Immigration Studies Training for Advocates (VIISTA) program at Villanova University. The purpose of the program is to train non-lawyer immigrant advocates.

Ideas and Creations
