Workshop for faculty and staff Aug. 19

Visit the CELT website or a full description and to register. Those who register will be sent the Zoom link for the workshop.

Virtual Friendship Family Program

The Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success (CIES) is looking for volunteers to participate in our 2020 Friendship Family Program, which partners local individuals/families with incoming first-year international students. The program is more important this year than ever, as our students are arriving amidst so much uncertainty. You can be a part of their positive transition to life at Luther! The program will be 100% virtual, at least for fall 2020. Please email <mugglicl> with questions or to indicate interest in the program.

Black Alumni Association scholarship established

A new scholarship opportunity will soon be available to African American students at Luther. The Black Alumni Association Scholarship was established this summer in memory of slain African Americans who fell victim to racist violence in America. The scholarship will be awarded annually to African American students who are in need of financial assistance, with preference given to those who are active in community engagement. The scholarship will be available to students in the fall of 2021.

Dining Services goes cashless

All dining locations on campus will be cashless. However, all major credit cards, debit cards and dining dollars will be accepted.

New Campus Event Request Form

Campus Programming has a new and improved Campus Event Request Form. Whether your event is in person or virtual, using this form will add it to our internal Google calendar (and the Luther Events Calendar if you choose), and help prevent scheduling conflicts. Contact Megan Pitz <bohrme01> for COVID-adjusted room capacities. If you have suggestions for Campus Programming, please contact Kristen Underwood <k.underwood>.

Events this week

Until the time comes for us to safely gather in person, Campus Programming will be supporting virtual events and new ways to create community.

Opening Convocation Aug. 31 (virtual event)

Celebrate the start of the new academic year and welcome the class of 2024 with a virtual Opening Convocation at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31. The convocation speaker is Thi Bui, author of "The Best We Could Do," the summer 2020 reading. Thi Bui came to the United States in 1978 as part of the "boat people" wave of refugees fleeing Southeast Asia at the end of the Vietnam War. Her graphic novel delivers personal narratives of multiple generations, set against the complex history of Vietnam in the 20th century. Opening Convocation is required for Paideia students as part of their coursework. A link will be available to the public for this live-streamed event. Limited copies of the book are still available for faculty and staff in the Luther College Book Shop.

Service of Dedication

Traditionally held in August for faculty and staff before classes begin, this year's Service of Dedication will welcome the full campus community to the academic year as part of Homecoming Weekend in October. Details and a link to this virtual event will be available in September.
