MLK Chapel: A Service Lamenting Racism Jan. 17
As we reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and consider the ongoing damage done by explicit, implicit, and structural racism, we encourage all to join us for a special chapel service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17. During this service we will confess and lament the racism that still plagues our society, and commit ourselves in faith to make meaningful change in our hearts and in our society. This service is currently planned for the CFL Recital Hall, but will move online, if necessary, due to COVID-19 precautions.
Walk the Labyrinth
Walking the labyrinth is an ancient practice used by different faiths as a tool for meditation, spiritual centering, and prayer. You walk a winding path to the center, all the while quieting your mind and focusing on a spiritual question or prayer. You are invited to light a candle and participate in this independent walking meditation each Wednesday and Friday this January, anytime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the CFL Recital Hall. Please wear a mask, keep good distancing, and remove your shoes before entering the labyrinth.

And finally...
January is National Mentoring Month!
Our local Helping Services for Youth and Families is celebrating mentoring friendships and inviting others to engage in their community with the theme "Mentoring is simple! Be a friend to a youth." Mentoring has a positive impact on youth and the volunteer mentor. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships bring about powerful and positive changes in youth. Mentored youth have a greater chance of avoiding negative influences, such as substance abuse, bullying, or dropping out of school. One in three youth grows up without a positive adult role model to look up to.
Individuals, couples, and families can mentor a youth. Take one simple step, become a mentor! Visit www.helpingservices.org/mentoring for more information, or contact Colinne or Kathy at (563) 387-1720 or
<[email protected]>.
