Upcoming changes to the Tuesday

Beginning Feb. 8, 2022 changes will be made to the weekly staff and faculty Tuesday newsletter. Please note the following:

• The Tuesday will only be shared via email, and will no longer be posted on luther.edu/tuesday
• Each submission will only be posted for one issue. Those who would like to have a post appear for multiple weeks must resubmit each week. Please plan accordingly
• The email list for the Tuesday will no longer be open for subscription, and will be limited to staff, faculty, and emeriti recipients

For current recipients of the Tuesday who are not a current Luther employee or emeriti, you will be contacted regarding opportunities to stay informed about what's happening at Luther.

Being Community updates

Feb. 11 COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic - Boosters, 1st, and 2nd doses available
On Friday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Winneshiek County Public Health will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Peace. The clinic is open to all Luther students, faculty, and staff. First, second, or booster doses of Pfizer and Moderna will be available. Sign up not required. Participants getting their second or booster dose should bring their vaccination card or a photo of their card. Digital photos are accepted. Face masks are required in the clinic area regardless of alert level. You may also call Public Health at 382-4848 to schedule an appointment if you are unable to attend the clinic.

Free COVID Testing and COVID Test Reimbursements
For Luther employees on the UMR health plan: You can be reimbursed for the cost of over-the-counter at-home COVID-19 test kits, effective Jan. 15, 2022. UMR health insurance members should pay cash and submit a Prescription Drug Reimbursement Claim Form to Express Scripts for reimbursement. Members are limited to 8 tests per rolling 30 days. For all U.S. households: The White House launched the covidtests.gov website. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are free. Orders will usually ship in 7-12 days.

HR Updates

Monthly staff meetings in February
At 2 p.m. Feb. 2, and at 9 a.m. Feb. 3, in Peace Dining Room, all staff are invited to hear from college leadership and your colleagues. Major topics to be covered will include the budget planning process and strategic planning updates. You will also have the chance to learn about the upcoming Giving Day and about sustainability. Meeting dates for the year are posted on the Human Resources website. 

2022 Form 1095-C Employer-Provided Health Insurance
Human Resources is working to prepare 2022 Form 1095-C for employees. Those forms must be provided by March 2, 2022, but we expect to have them ready by early February. You are not required to include Form 1095-C when you file your taxes. Please go to the Tax Information section of NorseHub to consent to electronic delivery of Form 1095-C in order to receive forms faster and save the college printing expense. Not Quite Free Lunch makeup!

The NQFL for January has been rescheduled to 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 27, in Peace Dining Room. The cost is $5, which is payable with cash or your Luther ID. Wellness subsidizes the remainder of the cost. Come join us for "orange day;" tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, Cheetos, dessert and beverages!!

February's Not Quite Free Lunch


Join colleagues at the Not Quite Free Lunch 11:30 a.m.–1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8th, in the Peace Dining Room, sponsored by Wellness. Boost social and emotional wellness by getting away from the typical workspace and mingling with folks from across campus. The menu is thick and zesty chili with beef and pork, vegetarian sweet potato and black bean chili, caramel swirl brownies and beverages.

During 2022, employees and spouses covered by the Luther College Health Care Plan have additional wellness benefits and requirements. Sign up for the Wednesday, Feb. 9, blood draw on campus with WMC or the March 9 blood draw on campus with Gunderson Health Clinic.

Employee yoga class


A six-week employee yoga class will be starting Feb. 7 with Molly Gallagher as the instructor. Class will be held on Mondays from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Wellness will subsidize the total fee so your cost is a mere $30! Sign up soon as this is a great opportunity for all current employees and their spouses.

Summer employment supervisor meeting Jan. 27

Will you be supervising student employees this summer? Join the supervisor meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, to learn about 2022 summer employment at Luther. Even if you have previously supervised summer students you are highly encouraged to attend. With the management of summer employment shifting from the HR department to Student Employment, there will be changes in how the process and program will work this summer. Giant heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies are waiting for your personalized message or order a dozen cookies with all the fixings to frost your own at home. February Chapel: We've Come This Far by Faith

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge God, who will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6) In this Black History Month, our chapel offerings will reflect on the faithfulness of God and the resilience offered us by our faith commitments and traditions. We consider the difficult and even impossible journeys that we have traveled, the leaps of faith we have taken, and the things that have provided us strength and sustenance along the way. As the hymn goes, "We've come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord; trusting in his holy word, he's never failed us yet." (TFF 197) Join us for chapel at 10:30 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

New Chapel Pattern
Chapel continues each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30 a.m. while classes are in session. This semester, join us for an updated pattern for chapel opportunities.

• Mondays: Morning Prayer, take 20 minutes to sing, pray, and reflect (CFL Recital Hall)
• Wednesdays: Rest and Recharge, join us for a variety of mindfulness and spiritual practices, including meditation, movement, art, and music (CFL Recital Hall)
• Fridays: Celebrate Community, come to hear a variety of speakers and music ensembles, as we celebrate the wisdom and gifts of our Luther community (CFL Main Hall)

NEW! Emmaus: Evening Communion Worship
Beginning Feb. 2, College Ministries invites you to a new weekly worship service each Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the CFL Recital Hall. This is a new opportunity for a weekly communion service on campus, using Marty Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer liturgy. All students, staff, and faculty are invited. Contact College Ministries <ministry> for more information or to volunteer to help with worship.

NEW! Thursday Shadow Block Bible Study
Beginning Feb. 3, join Pastor Melissa for a weekly Zoom Bible study each Thursday morning at 9:45 a.m. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni are all invited to join the conversation. SAC Spring Concert Announced!

SAC Concerts is excited to announce Tai Verdes as our spring concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Regents Center. Tickets are $15. Three months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Tai Verdes was an essential worker with a 9-to-5 job at an LA Verizon Wireless store. Now he has one of the biggest viral hits in the US, hailed by The New York Times as one of the "Best Songs of 2020." Tickets can be purchased at tickets.luther.edu. Questions? Email <sacconcerts>.

Position openings

Director to lead a grant-funded TRIO Student Support Services program (1.0 FTE): The TRIO Achievement Program features a highly-structured, student-centered retention model reliant on timely and proactive services, activities, and evidence-based interventions. A master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, student personnel, social work, psychology, or related field is required. Also required is at least five years' experience with TRIO programs or similar projects supporting the success of targeted populations and a proven track record of successful project management and grant management experience. 

Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician (1.0 FTE): Position will perform all types of building maintenance and repair. Most work will be related to the various electrical systems on campus from three phase primary voltages to low voltage control systems. Work will meet the NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) standards. High school diploma and a State of Iowa electrical license required. Preference given to a journeyman's license. Four years of formal working experience in installation and repair of electrical systems, a valid driver's license and computer skills to access web-based work order system are also required.
