COLLEGE OPERATIONS

Upcoming Internet outages Aug. 5 and Aug. 9

At approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, and at approximately 11 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9, Luther's Internet connection will experience short outages while maintenance is performed.

KATIE migrated to MFA authentication

KATIE now uses the MFA authentication system in place for systems like Norse Hub. For those who have not used MFA authentication yet, more information is available on the Technology Help Desk website on how to configure multi-factor authentication settings.

Friendship Families still wanted

The Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success (CIES) is still recruiting 2021-22 Friendship Families to partner with our large group of incoming international students arriving in August. The goal of the program is to promote international understanding and friendship, develop an appreciation of how others live and view the world, and assist new students in the process of adjustment to Luther College and the United States. You can work with one or more students and can choose whether to engage with your student(s) in person or virtually. CIES plans to host several in-person events for the entire group, including a welcome potluck and a pumpkin carving event. Please fill out the 2021-22 Friendship Family Interest Form to indicate your interest in the program. Email Clara Muggli-Toyloy <mugglicl> with questions.

Aquatic Center closed for maintenance

Luther College Writers Festival registration now open

Registration is now open for the sixth biennial Luther College Writers Festival, taking place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25. Celebrating the rich diversity of contemporary imaginative writers, participants will enjoy in-person keynote addresses, craft sessions, featured readings, and panels all led by well-known writers.

Book Shop news

The Book Shop has copies of Robin Kinnerer's books for sale, "Braiding Sweetgrass" and "Gathering Moss." Author, professor and founding director of the Center for Native Peoples and Environment, Kimmerer was the recent keynote speaker at the 2021 Midwest Environmental Educators Conference held recently at Luther College.

Position openings

Administrative Assistant in the Music Department (1.0 FTE): Position to provide administrative assistance to the department head and perform a variety of duties assisting faculty members and department head. Assistant will act as office manager for the department by monitoring faculty load, part-time pay authorizations and budgets, scheduling courses, and updating student and department guidelines. Other duties will include keeping student records in regard to music majors, ensembles, proficiency results, recitals, lessons, and grades. High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of two years office-related experience required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have the ability to exercise independent judgment.

Custodial Staff Member (0.75 FTE): Position will maintain building appearance and cleanliness in all areas, including lobbies, entrances, classrooms, offices, hallways, kitchens, conference rooms, staircases, study lounges, restrooms, and shower rooms. Hours will typically be 7 a.m.–1 p.m. Monday–Friday. High School Diploma and/or equivalent preferred but not required.

Regents Center Custodian (1.0 FTE): Position will monitor the campus schedule for events that are held at the Regents Center. The custodial staff member maintains building appearance including lobbies, entrances, classrooms, offices, hallways, break rooms, auditoriums, SRC, conference rooms, staircases, restrooms, shower rooms, weight rooms and gymnasium. Hours will typically be 4 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. High School Diploma and/or equivalent preferred but not required.

Weekend Custodian (0.75 FTE): Position has the opportunity to interact with students, staff, faculty, and the community on a daily basis. Custodian will support student life as well as events on campus. This role will have access to areas across campus and support the cleaning and sanitation in residence halls as well as academic spaces. Typical work schedule is noon–6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 6 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Must be able to work with little supervision, complete work thoroughly and promptly, and be self-motivated. High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Valid driver's license required.
