By Sophie Treadwell
Directed by Josiah Laubenstein
Machinal by Sophie Treadwell is the story of a woman battling the consequences of decisions she felt powerless to overturn and who murders her husband to free herself from a suffocating marriage. She searches for agency in her life through themes of suppression of women, freedom from societal expectations, and mechanization and industrialization.
