September 1, 2011, the Luther community welcomed 678 new first year and transfer students in the Center for Faith and Learning. Shown in this photograph, Tracy Kidder, the author of this years' first-year reading, "Strength in What Remains," gave the convocation address, supplemented by photographs from his friend Deogratias whose story and memories of civil war in Burundi and Rwanda is recollected.
