Luther College Moment in History #63

On October 19, 1995, Their Majesties Harald V and Sonja visited Decorah during a three-week diplomatic tour of North America. This was King Harald's second visit to Luther College and Queen Sonja's first. During their visit, the Royal couple were invited to a parade in their honor that originated on Montgomery Street and proceeded down Water Street and College Drive. Their Majesties then were taken to the Center for Faith and Life and were greeted by Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and Luther College President H. George Anderson. The Luther College Concert Band and the Nordic Choir performed and U.S. Military color guardsmen presented the flags of Norway, the U.S., and Iowa. Other speakers included Luther's Student Senate President, junior Sara Isbell, and Decorah High School student Keri Johnson.

During their most recent visit, the King and Queen will had an equally busy day, beginning with a Royal Convocation at the CFL at 11:45 am and going into the afternoon at Vesterheim with performances by the Nordic Dancers and Luren Singers and a press conference in the museum's open air area.
