Class of 1949 Fall 2019 Letter

Fall 2019

Dear 49ers,

The time had come for class agents to author their Fall 2109 class letters. School has begun for the 2019-2020 year. However, there is not a lot to write about.

One item is that our new President, Jenifer K. Ward, began her duties on July 1, 2019. She is a close neighbor of Marilyn and I, living in the college house across the street on Ridge Road. She is the eleventh president of Luther College, following Paula Carlson. An unusual note is, Luther’s past two presidents have been females. Way back when, whoever thought about such, seventy years ago?

Luther’s Homecoming was the first weekend in October. We 49ers were the top of the list celebrating our 70th anniversary! Marilyn and I also celebrated our 70th wedding anniversary on August 14. You will have received much information from our college. It is my hope that many of my classmates returned to Decorah for the event.

Here in the Decorah area, we have benefitted from generous rainfalls all summer. The entire area was green and wonderfully lush, which of course includes Luther. In my opinion, our college campus is a most beautiful area.

It is my hope that this brief letter finds each of my classmates in good health and in a state of happiness. Hope to see you at Luther this fall.
